Blood on the Altar Resolutions (Spoilers)

By nungunz, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Soooooo we ended up getting the "No resolution" ending. We had Silas dead to rights, but drew the wrong chaos token and pulled an ancient evils with no ward in hand for an extra two doom tokens that left us without enough actions to win.

Couldn't win before doom ran out and decide just to get to safe spots and spam Delve Too Deep and get something for our troubles.

Just to confirm with the no resolution we don't get the interlude and don't get the Powder of Ibn-Gazi, correct?

Yup, that's correct.

The good news is that doing poorly on "Blood on the Altar" means "Undimensioned and Unseen" will be a bit easier. Less XP available to win, but easier to get the best outcome.

Actually, as long as you didn't get a certain bad resolution in one of the early scenarios, Armitage should still be not kidnapped, and you get the powder from him (check the interlude). Unless I missed something.

If you resign Blood or are defeated, you do not get to do Interlude II, which is where you get the Powder. So in this case even having Dr Armitage, you still get no Powder.

Ah, must've missed that! Thanks man.

You can technically end up with Armitage and one of the others if you rescued them in the first scenario and they weren't kidnapped either during Museum, Express, or in the middle of Blood. But yes, the no resolution outcome says to proceed directly to the next scenario. The other resolutions say to proceed to Interlude II. Although it does seem weird that you can have one of the professors and not get the powder. Maybe it's just a matter of you took too much time.

Exactly what happened. We have Morgan, Armitage, and the Necronomicon. However, we did not get the interlude didn't get the powder.

U&U ended up being a cake walk. Jim Culver with Blood Pact and a good pull on Whately Ruins/Devil's Hopyard ended with an quick scenario.

We got the formula at 1 doom and the first brood killed at doom 3 in the first agenda.

We used Blood Pact to accelerate the doom clock (cleared with a Moonlight when needed)

The next two of the Brood were insta-killed the turn they came out by Jim Culver.

Zoey didn't do much except keep the heat off of Jim from the more mundane monsters. Police badge helped seal the early win.

All three Brood were killed by at the start of Agenda 3 and we ended up with two Delve Too Deep for an easy 5 experience.

how did you do this? -because this scenario is really giving me trouble: Although, I've noticed that the better you do at Blood on the Altar the harder U&U is... We did very well at Blood on the Altar.

Even with blood pact, smashing these guys with Jim seems like a tough sell. Jim's WP is 4, +3 from blood pact bumps him up to 7, maybe with some cards you can boost because all the Broods have Combat of 6, but still... each brood takes 3 hits to kill, and deals a ton of damage if it ever attacks you, which is hard to prevent (especially when you start with 2 on the board).

As Daisy, I personally had bought Higher Education, which allowed me to spend resources and get +2 WP for each resource. That combined with getting clues onto the brood was the key strategy.

+2 Willpower for each Clue on the Broods, too. If you get a lucky draw ok locations, you can put a ton of clues on.

Turn 1: Jim plays Rite of Seeking, Investigates for 1 clue. Use Rite of Seeking for 2 more clues. Zoey plays a beat cop, moves to Meadow and Investigates for 1 clue. Brood moves to village.

Turn 2: Zoey moves to Ruins and gets setup a bit more. Jim evades the Brood (committing +3) and spends 2 actions getting to the ruins and we advance the act. Brood unexhausts.

Turn 3: Zoey moves to Hopyard, Investigates and fails (gains two clues for Look What I Found), and draws a card. Jim plays the Rosary and Candles and uses Rite of Seeking for 2 clues. Brood moves to Blasted Heath.

Turn 4: Brood moves to Hopyard due to Mythos card. Jim moves to Hopyard, both Zoey and Jim place a clue on the Brood, Jim easily hits the Brood twice (testing Willpower 9 vs Fight 6). Zoey fights the Brood with Willpower 8 vs Fight 6 and commits unexpected courage. Pulls the squid token, but avoids damage with I've Had Worse... And gains 4 resources. Brood dies. Zoey equips the gun and a police badge.

Etc, etc.

Note also that UU is one of those scenarios like MM, where getting some but not all of the Brood might be perfectly adequate.
