Rebel Veterans - a Rogue One expansion

Here is the custom expansion I'm working on, all based on new canon characters and inspired by Rogue One.

This X-Wing + Y-Wing "aces pack" is part of a greater project (custom campaign box) I plan to do someday.

Feedback and suggestions are always welcome.

I can't think of a single reason to take the Slug turret over an Ion...

Other than that, looks good.

As worded it ignores shields. So maybe one reason?

Yes. It's a counter to regen ships (or ships with high shield values).

I like "One with the Force" thematically.

"Heroic sacrifice", if Rebels had low PS flyers with an EPT this could made a versatile blocker. Otherwise, at 1 point, I am not sure if any EPT-slotted pilot would take it (most of them are really expensive), as the added crits still can be evaded (unlike Vader or BMST etc), while almost killing your own ship.

Easy trick, this enables A-wings with 3 EPTs (Test Pilot, one could be a really expensive one, plus 2 up to 2points)?

Which is better?

I don't think the Stress component of Merrick's pilot ability is necessary for balance. In terms of making an attack hit, it is comparable to Wedge's ability. That stress could cripple him. Your X-wing stuff trends toward making the ship better at jousting. I like that trend. Merrick won't be a better jouster if he can't K-turn after using his pilot ability.

The Star Wars dot com Databank names a couple astromechs from Rogue One: R3-S1 and R2-BHD. Maybe you could add something for them.

I'd like to see a free "Y-wing Ace" title: "Y-wing Only. Unique Pilots Only. Your upgrade bar gains the (EPT) upgrade slot. You cannot equip this card if the (EPT) icon is printed in your upgrade bar. You may equip 2 titles."

Veteran Co-Pilot would be fine in a game where the VCX isn't an abomination. A Ghost with EPT would be overpowered.

Any Rogue One theme pack should include the characters missing from the U-wing expansion. U-wing pilots needed: K-2SO, and the pilot that made the beach landings. Crew cards needed: K-2SO and Chirrut Imwe. The U-wing probably needs something special in the mod slot. My vote is for a door gun mod that you can only use when the Pivot wing title is in landing mode.

Which is better?

The first version says "rebel alliance" so the resistance t-70 can't equip it. This second one would block a regen Luke from taking a shield upgrade giving him 3 shields. I like the first.

You can equip it in a GSP Y-wing (with the BTL-S3 title & Veteran Co-Pilot) or any Rebel ship with my old upgrade Two-Seater (& Veteran Co-Pilot). ;)

There are several things that cause self stress. Now Farns turning friendly moves green helps with that but my question would be when does his ability trigger? Does the ship have to be range 1 when it reveals the maneuver to be green or is when it completes the maneuver?

We need a FAQ. :P

Edit: Forgot to mention how wicked crazy good he would be for BB-8 and R2-D2 wingmates.

2nd Edit: (Answering my own question ;) ) "When a Friendly ship at Range 1 reveals a speed 1 or speed 2 maneuver, it may treat that maneuver as a green maneuver."

Yeah, I like the idea of this, but it won't help me in any way, as long as this is nothing official.

Wow, lots of suggestions! Include the U-wing in the pack? Interesting! (the ship really needs some improvements, anyway)

Holy Crap! Farns gives B-Wings Green hards and K-Turns! And Attack Shuttle and VCX a full array of 1's and 2's that are all green. And EVERY SHIP EVER!!!

How do we make the Veteran co-pilot not help the Ghost?

I did a long time ago (long before the movie was even released) some cards for the U-wing, including Door Gunners. ;)

Would something like:

"You cannot equip this upgrade if your hull value is 10 or greater."

Also, if the Ghost can't take it maybe swap the picture for another, hairier, co-pilot?

"Easy Trick" seems too good on A-Wings that have the title. Maybe X-wing & Y-Wing only? (Or some limit)

An idea for a Y-Wing pilot: You may increase the range of [Turret] weapons by 1, up to a maximum of 3.

Probably good for the PS3 as it may be too good on a higher PS. Just an idea.

Maybe one of them can improve bombs? I never see bomb loadout on Ys.

How about the Y pilots being torpedo carriers.

When attacking with a torpedo, you may reroll a number of dice up to the range value of the attack.

Or

When attacking with a torpedo, you may roll one additional attack die.

Or

When attacking with a torpedo, when comparing results you may cancel one of the defenders defense die, if you do, assign yourself one facedown damage card.

Small Ship Only is one clear solution, but that excludes several ships that probably deserve a chance to use it. Non-unique pilots only would be interesting. Lothal Rebel could still use it, but it would prevent abusive combos on Kanan and Hera.

In regard to the lore, why the T-65 would be a better jouxter than the T-70 ? Not logical. The only way to improve the T-65 without concerning the T-70 is a Rogue Squadron title, an ideal card for a Rebel Veterans thematic. ;) For example :

Slug cannon turret : an anti-regen weapon, OK, but why in a Rebel extension ? :lol:

I love your EPTs dedicated to Rebels.

- I like Jaldine. Jaldine chooses whether or not she wants to move her Target Lock first, then the other friendlies can start moving theirs. Let the TL shenanigans ensue.

- I can see the appeal of Farns. It’s like being able to equip 2 astromechs; a free R2 plus a second astromech. I suspect he’d be nearly as appealing if it were just his own ship i.e. “You may treat your speed 1 and speed 2 maneuvers as green maneuvers”

- Heroic Sacrifice is cool too. The way it’s written if the ship has any damage cards already he/she would destroy themselves using this EPT. The ultimate sacrifice indeed. I suspect this would only get used when the ship is near death especially for high hull value ships like a VCX, YT, or ARC.

[If Heroic Sacrifice were worded something like “… discard this card and then deal your ship a number of facedown damage cards until you have one less than your hull value” (maybe specify a minimum of 1 damage card dealt) he/she could survive the encounter even if already damaged which would allow a little more flexibility in when to use it. But then it wouldn’t be the heroic sacrifice you probably intended.]

- I like One with the Force a lot.

I'm sorry, but there needs to be s-foils in this expansion :) :

Increase agility by 1.
