Millennium Falcon Question.

By CasoPrime, in X-Wing

I want to add a falcon to collection, Eill probably fly it some casually, but my question is should i buy the original oe the HOTR expansion? Pros, cons, go!

Original has better upgrades for the Falcon (just about) and generally better pilot abilities.

HoTR is a better pack overall with a Falcon and X-Wing. Rey is very good as well.

I LOVE my Rey with her BFF Fin! But yea I like the Original Han and Chewie better so it would be a tough choice.

Very hard call. The bonus X-wing makes me lean towards Hotr(Rey is also my favorite pilot) but if you want to play with Han or Chewie then the original versions are way better.

It depends on how you want to fly. Original is intended to take a few more hits with the Falcon title's evade action, fly back and forth across the battlefield, and deal out of arc hits repeatedly. "Fat Han" builds are based on this version.

HoR is far more flying by the seat of your pants with the best pilot Rey's ability and Finn crew improving attack and defense while in arc, as well as the S loop added with the HoR Falcon title. Kanan crew (not included) makes the title's S loop not leave you with stress, so you can do a lot of crazy maneuvering. "Expertise Rey" is a common build.

HoR Han pilot can be hilarious during setup, but has no ongoing ability once round 1 starts, so is generally regarded to just be a fun casual pilot. I've read that HoR Chewbacca pilot is probably the best out of all the Falcon pilots for Epic games, but I haven't tried it myself.

When faced with the same choice I chose the HoR, but mostly because it is really important for your T70 X Wing aces (highest PS pilot and Black One title).

If you're playing casual then Hotr has the fun abilities to mess around with. And its $10 more for an extra ship

Edited for accuracy:

The original Millennium Falcon expansion was a Wave 2 release, so it's quite old now. Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando are all still good pilots, but the generic (Outer Rim Smuggler) is awful.

With regards to upgrades, it comes with Veteran Instincts, Draw Their Fire and Elusiveness, the Millennium Falcon Evade action title, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker and Nien Numb crew, Weapons Engineer, plus two copies each of Engine Upgrade and Shield Upgrade. Of the upgrades, Veteran Instincts and Engine Upgrade are probably the most useful - the rest are pretty dated or obscure.

Heroes of the Resistance is a much more recent release, and comes with some much-needed upgrades for both the Falcon and T-70. The only thing that really lets the pack down a bit is the Falcon pilots. Resistance Sympathizer is better than the Outer Rim Smuggler, but Han and Chewie are less useful than their original incarnations, leaving Rey as the best pilot choice for the Falcon itself.

The T-70 pilots are excellent, though. PS9 Poe is arguably the weakest due to the points increase over the Core Set's PS8 Poe, but Nien Numb, Snap Wexley and Jess Pava all offer useful (and fun) abilities.

The upgrades in the pack are excellent. Pattern Analyser, Primed Thrusters, Integrated Astromech, M9-G8 and the Black One title are all really useful with the T-70, and the Falcon gets the Segnor's Loop title, Finn and Rey crew, Hotshot Co-Pilot and the Snuggling Compartment, alongside Burnout SLAM. Oh, and you also get two copies each of Snap Shot and Trick Shot.

So, to compare, the original Millennium Falcon has three good named pilots, Veteran Instincts and Engine Upgrade as it's main draws. Heroes of the Resistance has only one really good named Falcon pilot, but excellent additions for the T-70 and some really good upgrades and options for both ships.

Thanks for the responses. I am currently working and cant really look it up, do either one have upgrades that are good for other ships e.g. VI, IA anything like that?

All the stuff FTS Gecko mentioned.

Are you playing in tournaments or casual games?

For casual, buy HoR and just print off the pilot and upgrade cards you feel like using.

For tournaments, the 2 best pilots are Rey and original Han, so you'll end up with both sets, but I'd still recommend HoR first because of the T70 bits.

Original, unless you got to have that square dish which is why you broke off that bromance. Speaking of Lando what happened to him? Did he send those bounty hunters that got eaten by the CGI monsters?

What, did you want the Rathtars to be practical effects? You got any idea how much sillier that'd look? They already look dumb..!

Would have preferred they not be there at all, to be honest. The entire sequence was dumb.

This. I'd go for the models that appeal most to you and use a squadbuilder for the rules on the upgrades (as long as you're not using bombs, which are difficult to proxy, but that's not relevant here).

However, if you're the kind of player who plays 'casually' and still wants to use the actual cards, I don't think the original Millennium Falcon set is a bad choice for a beginning player. It offers excellent play value for money, because it forms the basis for a variety of powerful squads.

Well yeah sure but if they gotta be there then they at least better be done as right as possible.

The falcon creaming one in hyperspace is f***in great though.

They are both good great expansions.

If you have the Blue core set, I'd lean towards the new Falcon mainly because it will really help your T-70 X-wing's roster of pilots.

Having said that, you are going to budget for both if you want to get all the goodies. You can always fly two Falcons!

I should just buy both. But i already had my eyes on the Slave 1 and Phantom(Both coming tomorrow!) And i am going to pick up HoTR on tuesday from my LGS. 10% off on x wing nights!

I am going to try to play competitively, i think i can make a decent non meta list with what i have and what im picking up. Also play casually with my wife but we dont proxy cards.

I appreciate all the responses! The x wing community is awesome!

Get the one with the Wookiee pilot. You can't go wrong.

There are a lot of ideas on the Squad List forum that aren't meta. It's a good place to look around for a bit.

Good luck!

I have read through a few pages on there trying to get some ideas and see how everything works together. I have also posted 2 squad lists in there. Feel free to take a look and let me know.
