Timing of Rexler Braths Ability?

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

So his ability states:

After you perform an attack that deals at least 1 Damage card to the defender, you may spend a focus token to flip those cards faceup.

When does this trigger? So for instance I roll an attack and roll 2 Hits an Crit. His Biggs takes a hit and crit, and gets 2 damage cards, the first one face down, and the second face up.

Do I have to spend before he takes his cards?

I saw a game where the guy waiting and after biggs picked his cards, the crit was blinded pilot the the Bigg player used his integrated astro to cancel that. Then the Rexler player stated I'm using my Focus to turn up the other face down card, which was a double damage.

So what is the timing of this?

Thanks,

Rexler can trigger at any time during the deal damage step, as long as at least one damage card was dealt (and if it auto flips over as a crit, he can flip it back over with his focus)

Nice! I never played that way before. I always assumed it was like calculation ept.

Rexlar's ability triggers "After an attack..."

That means that his ability triggers during step 8 on the attack phase flow chart, after the deal damage step has completely resolved.

This.

You wait til the attack is completely resolved (reds and greens rolled, results compared, cards dealt and resolved) before you get the choice whether to spend the focus to flip the cards or not. Yes, that DOES mean you might know what some or all of the crits are before you trigger it.

It's one of the only ways to get around Chewie.

Better yet, one of those crits could be a Major/Minor Explosion, which could deal another damage card. Rex's ability would also work those additional cards. For example, you could land a Major Explosion, which hits and deals a Thrust Control Fire. Your opponent would receive a stress token and flip the TCF facedown. Rexlar could then spend a focus to force them to both resolve the Major Explosion again and also flips the Thrust Control Fire faceup to deal another stress.

Would Hotshot Copilot force Rexler to use his focus token before his ability triggers?

I think using the token for the ability counts as using it during the attack because "after attacking" still happens in the flowchart for performing an attack and you can use it to flip zero cards. So if this is correct you can save the token for the ability but you are forced to spend it.

EDIT: No wait! For the ability to trigger the attack has to deal damage... IDK anymore...

Yes, they FAQ'd it. Hotshot happens after the "Declare Target" step and before the end of the "Modify Defense Dice" step. Rexler's ability happens after attacking.

Wouldn't that be "Yes! (per FAQ) He must spend token before the window for his ability"?

I humbly apologize, I read their question wrong.... you are correct

Sorry about me rushing to conclusion earlier. I play against RikuM regularly and his Defenders are my mortal enemy...

Oh i hate defenders with a passion, before the fix they almost made me quit the game. I could never beat them.

Of course you get around that with fleet officer on a tie shuttle which is a great support option for defenders.

Heck yes, bringing that plus two defenders to my next tourney (assuming I can make it)

Oh are you giving my DD:the augmentation list a go?

Works like this:

Rexlar unleashes the full fury of the Empire upon our mustached hero, Biggles, breaking his thumbs on the fire buttons and succeeds in sending three perfectly natural hits down range and a single critical shot, going straight into the engines.

Biggles, being the laser sponge that he is, takes all four like the disgusting rookie we all know him to be.

First two are absorbed by shields, which flicker and burn out under the pressure of withstanding an attack. The next two slam home in to the hull, the critical hit hits a vital part and sparks into a major explosion. Luckily for Biggles, his trusty droid takes the brunt. Biggles, on fire, brushes his sweaty brow and thanks the maker for being given just one more chance to survive, his noble droid's name will be remembered and honored for its sacrifice.

Rexlar, besmirched by such an event, squints, REALLY HARD and suddenly Biggle's is stressed and the major explosion goes off once more. Without his faithful droid to save him, his gaze meets the eyes of his beloved friend Jess Pava as they share one last smile before Biggles is engulfed in the righteous flames of retribution and blasted back into the cold void of space. His droid, aimlessly drifting through space, squeeks and beebs in laughter. .

"Serves you right you dumb dumb, perhaps if you weren't such a crutch, this wouldn't happen to you every single battle."
