Off Topic: Need help imbedding images to posts

By KungFuFerret, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So I don't seem to have much luck trying to imbed images or videos into this forum's format. I've tried the link button, and typed in a url i've copied from a random search for something, and it doesn't work.

Usually what I try to do, is just imbed something from a google image search, by right clicking and copying the image address. But that doesn't work here, like it does on other websites. Anyone mind explaining just what I need to do in order to accomplish that? Is there a [syntax]type[/syntax] type thing I can use that would work? I can't download and save the file as I'm on a company computer, and that is frowned upon.

Thanks.

***EDIT***
I got it to work, thanks to those who provided advice.

I've been having troubles too. I'd suggest saving your picture to a google drive and then set it as public with a link. Otherwise you might try the address stuff here [/img]

The forum's text editor should automatically convert a pasted URL with a .jpg, .png, etc into an embedded image. Just make sure that the URL actually ends in "jpg" or "png." If it ends in a bunch of other stuff, like is common with Wikia graphics, it won't be recognized as a picture.

Ok that is so weird. I tried that previously, even confirmed it had .jpg at the end, and it still only posted the string of characters in the address. Tried it again, and it worked. Not sure what was different this time. I hit enter more times to make a larger gap between my actual text and the image. Could that have possibly been a factor? Making sure it had sufficient space to show the image? I assumed it would just fit it to the area below the text.

At the bottom of the text field there is a dropdown labeled "insert other media" did you try that? (Or is it mobile only?)

I right click on a pic address and select copy image address and just post that. Typically that works, but there are some very few that can be persnickety for whatever arcane web app reason. In those cases I will copy the address to imgur upload and then post that. If that doesn't work I save the image to my computer and then post it from there to imgur and post that. I find png's are more finicky and will convert it to a jpeg typically. If none of that does it, I say 'F it' and don't bother with that image....

No I did not try that. However I did get it to work eventually.

Yeah I think it's one of those persnickety situations, I eventually got it to work with the same link information. The only thing I noticed that was different was I hit enter a few more times. My working theory is that is operates within the active text size, which would theoretically include the blank spaces when you hit enter. And until I hit enter enough times to account for the image size, it couldn't post it.

Essentially this much space below = not enough

----------------------------------------------------------------

But this much space below = enough

----------------------------------------------------------

*shrugs* Which kind of makes sense in a way, but I always just assumed it would expand down below the current cursor location. But whatever, I got it working finally, even though it was very temperamental.

On a somewhat related note, I was unable to upload an image, a few days back. It didn't specify at the time, but checking my settings, my "attachment quota" appears to be nearly full. Is there a way to delete previously posted content to free up more space, or will this automatically reset, in time? I don't feel like I've posted a disproportionate amount of media in my brief time on this site. Any ideas?

No clue what that relates to. Mine is 0% so I am gonna go with it has nothing to do with posting pics.

I think copying it to imgur probably cleans up formatting issues. On a side note, using imgur is just a good idea as even direct links that work become poopy at times.

You can upload pics straight to the forums. Theres a tiny storage limt so it's essentially useless. In your profile section you can see your uploads. Use that to navigate to the original post and edit the post to remove the image to free more space... or just use imgur

OK, here's a quick question. How do you embed videos ?

From YouTube? Just post the unmodified URL.

I've tried that, all I get is a URL string.

Do you right click on the video and copy it's URL?

Yep. I've tried everything.

That's copy/paste URL on my phone.

Weird. Maybe it's your browser? Or try contacting Support?

Its not mobile only and recently that button **** up image quality for some odd reasons. Maybe FFG wrote the forum code too. ;-)

I also have a totally full attachment quota. Id rather not upload the pic on place then try to link to it from here. I would really like to delete "my attachments" under the user menu at the top. I have two and thats put me at my max?
