So Toturi is the inverse Hotaru.

Holy crap they have some good cards.

Yeah, not liking that very much to be honest. The rest of their cards look very good though.

I think the more frequent word that came to mind during my reading of this article was "Wow!".

It's pretty much expected and perfect for the Lion. No other clan would really have an effect similar to Hotaru but with military.

Hmm, Kitsu Spirit caller makes me wonder when character check for uniqueness could he put a copy of say Toturi into play if you already had one? I'm assuming if you put Ikoma Eiji into play and lsot his reaction would trigger before the conditional trip to the bottom of your deck?

I like discard pile shaeningans. Good. Good.

And I like the fact that Lion's philosophy about political conflicts is "losing is winning".

It does take some of the sting out of swarm, still hate swarm and the line: With their fierce Bushi, the Lion look to overwhelm their opponents with pure numbers to break through their provinces and prove their superiority. Doesn't feel like Lion to me, goblins could swarm you, Lion use tactics to win. but at least they have strong cards. seems like they have lower influence than some of t he other powerful cards, but the difference between 2 and 3 isnt that great.

I'm sickened but curious with how many times I was impressed by this preview.

Lots of awesome cards and the artwork stays pretty consistently awesome.

Kitsu Spiritcaller - wow, no limits on its ability :o

I mean no cost limit, no clan specified, no strength limit :P

and he/she bows either way xd

Sashimono looks like good fun and it should not be too hard to get Matsu Beiona's ability to trigger. I gotta say that I liked this preview more than Crane :)

Putting it back into the deck is also a way to prevent running out of deck.

I get the feeling that Crane and Lion being the Political and Military leaders are going to find winning and losing a conflict a round pretty common. It will be the other clans that will be more balanced.

This makes me even more question Dueling. With this Lion are better duelers that Crane. Which is complete backwards. Toturi vs. Hoturi isn't even a contest in dueling.

I think statswise Akodo Toturi being the opposite of Hotaru makes perfect sense. I'm somewhat disappointed that Toturi's ability is the military version of Hotaru. However, that's a very minor complaint. There is no denying the ability is a strong one and it may be just to difficult to design an ability that equates to using a ring effect for free, at least for now. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if all the champions had some sort of variation of the same ability and altered stats.

Lion, Crab, and Unicorn champs so get the ring ability for military conflicts.

Crane and Scorpion champs get the ring ability for political conflicts.

Phoenix and Dragon champs get the ring ability for either conflict type.

Good xD but one can assume that Hotaru has more honor to spare? but lion seem to focus on honor too i guess

Can't wait for my opponent to flip three Obstinate Recruit on the first turn.

good and scary previews, dissapointed with Toturi's design though..seems uncreative.

Three Obstinate Recruits on turn 1 don't sound that good, mostly because I don't think that even Scorpion will start with enough difference in Honor to enable Obstinate Recruiting from Turn 1.

I hope they just did this with Hotaru and Toturi to highlight their connection in the story. Also they are making the Crane and Lion into polar opposites of one another so the opposite stats and skills fit

Mighty Gracious of you to give us Starting Honor of 8 ^_^

While I too am disappointed with the basically repeat of clan champ design, I could see it being a theme. So crane get political, lion get military. Unicorn get either while attacking [have to double up, but more flexibility]. Crab get defending [reverse of unicorn]. From there it gets a bit more tricky though. Scorpion might get it when they lose, to go with their whole "all acording to plan" thingy. Dragon maybe as long as champ was in the fight alone, as they are supposed to Voltron provenses and use attachments. And Phoenix gets the effect of any that weren't chosen at the end of the turn, as they are all about the rings too and more defensive, and they do their things from home more often as shugenja.

Just a thought.

FFG is running out of ideas already
