Overwhelming fun

By Malabor, in X-Wing

Thanks OP. This thread is a good reminder. You quote the excitement of improving in our squadron motto, and the first reply is my comic which I never tire of seeing resurface.

OVERWHELMING FUN! Let's not worry about competition and balance in this thread (we've got plenty of others for that), and remember the joy of PEW PEW

EXACTLY! Being the newbie-squid just getting involved, it's really exciting for me to read/hear (I listen to the Mynocks religiously now and donate patreon bucks monthly) the stories of how people got into the game and their experiences with their friends playing tournaments or house rules, etc. It's exciting. I can tell you that I (and I'm sure I'm not alone) get really tired of hearing the "jumpmaster this, the mindlink that" bit#h fest.

Scrolling through the other threads, there's just SO MUCH complaining. Does it do any good? Does it make the person doing the posting feel better to just "get it out"? I don't know. I realize that "fun" is subjective, but come one, surely everyone enjoys hearing how "this guy one time shotgunned a Keystone, put on a stormtrooper helmet and blasted his way through three matches with nothing but an Interceptor and a prayer!"

excellent advice! I've been checking out the acrylics for sure, but at the moment we're concentrating on building our fleet. The question at the moment is: TIE/SF or TIE/FO? U-wing or A-wing? All the ships!!

A-wings for sure, Tycho + Jake + another Ace is my favorite list to fly lately. SF vs FO, just get both, they are both cool, if you really had to pick one probably the FO? There's just more pilots :)

I hate seeing arguments happening in this thread. I started it to be about the "fun" of the game and my concern for all the negativity. I understand that a little friendly discussion is good for the brain and that this is a forum after all, but still. I feel like it's so much more pleasing to read the comments on how fellow players got started with the game or the clever comments or the shared dreams of a range 4 ship...not so much with the arguing and the name-calling. Can't we all just get along and blast each other to space-bits?

Yeah, sorry about messing up your thread. Welcome to the game and (with an ironic wink) welcome to the boards.

Reading complaints all the time does get old, but keep in mind that much of it comes from people being passionate about the game and wanting it to be as good as it can be. Also it is just human nature to talk about negative aspects of things and how to improve them, that's the part of our brains that engineers, inventors, researchers, detectives, etc. come from.

This is true. Sometimes I forget that it's easier to talk about the things that we DON'T like instead of the things we DO, right? If we have a bad experience at the restaurant, aren't we more inclined to trash talk it to our friends vs. shouting from the mountain tops that the pizza was tasty and the waitress kept 'em comin'?

Also, I guess I just need to accept that if people get into a "heated" discussion about something, it's as you said: they're passionate about it. And it's good to be part of something that incites so much passion in so many people. The game does seem pretty darn popular and is still growing. I only wish I would have known about it sooner!
