Return of the X-Wings - or other classy ships

By GreenDragoon, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I was playing and thinking around, looking forward to intensity and the Auzituck.
Essentially I want to make a squad out of the following ships and building blocks. So the ships and pilots are fix, the builds not so much.

"Snap" Wexley (37)
Intensity (2)
R2-D2 (4)
Primed Thrusters (1)
Autothrusters (2)

Nien Nunb (37)
Snap Shot (2)
R3-A2 (2)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
Autothrusters (2)

Wedge Antilles (36)
Intensity (2)
R7-T1 (3)
Vectored Thrusters (2)

Horton Salm (36)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R2-D6 (1)
Expertise (4)

Lowhhrick (36)
Push the Limit (3)
Kanan Jarrus (3)
Jyn Erso (2)

Keyan Farlander (34)
Rage (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Inspiring Recruit (1)
B-Wing/E2 (1)

[cost changed to total per ship]
I think Lowhhrick should/could be part of most combinations. Snap and Nien can't go together because they are too expensive - unless I remove an autothruster

I classified them like this:
Jake and Snap are flankers. Jake is cheaper, faster/nimbler and has less offense. The two are my favorite ships to fly, especially with Intensity. Snap can boost even if stressed, and that gives him a token. Jake can go up to 4 actions or 3 if he uses Juke, so he's crazily efficient. And with Lowhhrick+Jyn he might get even more. But his offense is very, very weak compared to Snap who can easily get to Focus+TL every other turn if necessary (and if the defensive situation allows it).
I'm aware of the downside of not taking VI on Jake, but I like to fly him with Juke - and Intensity is the new staple on him. But I see the option and its advantages. Also because that one point is really precious in combining them...

Nien is a control ship. Snapshot + R3A2 denies actions and can double stress over the whole turn. I don't care as much about his - quite respectable - damage output. However he is a bit boring to fly as he's a onetrick pony.

Wedge, Horton and Keyan are damage dealers.
They have great damage output, with Wedge being possibly the best - IF (and that's a huge if) he can really use R7-T1 to get boost, TL+Focus in a turn. VT is a backup to procc intensity if necessary.
Horton is extremely reliable with his damage, but of course TLT is capped. Then again he is almost guaranteed one damage. For example, his expected damage against 3green dice with focus and evade is 0.96 - which is higher than Focus+TL from Wedge against the same target (0.641).
Keyan has basically guaranteed Focus+TL on every turn. FCS is not even necessary, I added it as a contingency if I can't rage for some reason, like red maneuvers for example. His damage output is lower than Wedge - if Wedge pulls off the combo - but more reliable with his actions. In fact he has slightly higher expected damage in all cases if Wedge only gets a focus, but they are very much comparable.

And finally Lowhhrick is my support ship. He provides focus and evades, and can even remove stress. His Jyn is much more reliable due to the 180° arc, and he'll stay in range 1 anyway because of his ability, so he will be able to distribute the tokens. PTL is to ensure both Jyn and Reinforce, and Kanan to remove the stress again.

My questions for you guys:

  • How would you alter these ship builds?
  • How would you combine them?
  • Do you think this Lowhhrick is viable and better than the others?
  • Which of these 3 damage dealers do you prefer?

I know you mentioned it in your writings, but FCS is redundant on Farlander. You can drop it entirely for a cheaper ship, freeing space elsewhere.

Given that, I would run Jake, the altered Keyan, and Nein. A nice spread of ships, abilities, and target priority.

I've always had a soft spot for Wedge, Horton and Jake, being the 3 ships I flew the most when starting to play. Coincidently enough, the 3 of them fit in a 100 points perfectly, my only worry is Wedge or Horton being shot down in a single round. So maybe switch one of them for an equal price (36 points) Lowhhrick. Nien might help out too, so you could drop one of those two (Wedge or Horton) and Autothrusters to fit Nien, then keep the extra point for iniative or up juke to ptl on Jake, though he'll have a hard time dealing damage like that.
