i want to buy the core set and i have to ask, if i want to play the game with a friend i need only one core set or each of us need one?

Both of you can play with a single core set between you. You can have hundreds of interesting games this way.

If you are into serious deckbuilding, you might consider additional purchases in future, but for casual play, you will be fine.

While Chick and darknight are certainly correct, I have always felt, and continue to express, if you don't have the expanded "original" game with which to compare, only then is the core I guess adequate. The moment you undertand the capacity the game has, one lone core is disappointingly thin. I give nOObs credit to learn that very quick, or to come in seeing the truth of it. But core works. Picture perhaps sixteen pawns and two kings facing off. Is it chess? Sure. Are there complex tactics? Sure. Is the real game as originally intended...
