You can give up after book 3 or 4. After the original trilogy is not as great. Original trilogy is good.

I only got 1st 3. so thanks:lol:

Care to expand? I really wish to read something in genre with a female POV for a change.

The pov switiches between Takeo and Kaede, our 2 protagonist. He gets ch1, She gets ch2 and so on.

She starts out as a political hostage, so you might like that part:P

I wanted to share this source - it is one of my favorite youtubers. He is a historian and teacher who speaks at length about historic armaments and combat, especially Roman, Japanese, and as a separate topic - fantasy. He also has a series of videos that goes into detail of Japanese monsters!! Which you will enjoy if you run any L5R RPG (or any other rpg for that matter).

The Metatron:

(Specifically his series on Japanese warfare and mythology)

Also the youtube channel Extra Credits (a great source of knowledge and insight) started a second channel called Extra History which focuses on different great moments in history, including some of the greatest battles. These guys do a great job of explaining the Sengoku Jidai period in Japan which I would consider an essential era for L5R. You can also view their other videos featuring some political, economic, and battle conflicts throughout history. Great series, here is the Sengoku Jidai one

I haven't watched it myself, but I heard a lot of critique about factual errors in the japan-oriented videos of the extra credits guy.

I'd recommend giving it a watch. Every series they do includes a final episode where they talk about any errors, embellishments, or other facts about it.

Still for Rokugan it provides a great insight into the era the game is based on.

Might do it one day, but I'm one of those weird people who can't stand listening to talking heads. That's why I never attended lectures at university, I would rather read the source material than spend 3 hours listening to maddeningly slow method of communication which is also incredibly unanchored for me. So I prefer things I can read instead of things I have to listen to :).

I would give Extra History a chance, they go far beyond the talking head of a professor. Each period is carefully thought out, with a focus on the humanity of the people involved.

Extra Credits is usually just an introduction, but it is fast and smart, and of the very best things you can find on YouTube.
