Another neutral province card, this will occupy a void province slot (the only other void province we've seen is the Phoenix province Mori Kuroi). Whats really notable for this province is the 5 strength which will be tough to overcome if you run into it unprepared. The effect wont be useful every conflict but could be crucial against certain personalities or in certain matchups.

Love to hear what everyone thinks.

I like the strength of this province, but I am not sure if this will work with a Crab deck. I am leaning towards it won't. Crab are defender based. One Crab province lets us resolve ring effects if we win as the defender. I presume there will be other cards similar as well. This province may prevent those effects.

I think we will see themes for what each Ring-type of province will do.

Not really meta. It's just a really strong defensive province. Defends against both province breaking and attacking for Rings.

Kind of "meh" about it. My opponent can't sent a unit or two in hopes of either drawing away some of my readied forces or claiming an easy ring. It is all or nothing.

It can be seen as a 0 strenght province giving +5 strength to the defender (except that you won't claim the ring, which counts for the purpose of Imperial Favor). Trying to compare it to another one, the closest thing I can imagine is Night Raid.

This is tricky, but assuming it discards two cards (which seems pretty reasonable to me), it might be close to being worth a 4 strength difference (Fine Katana and Banzai both give you at least +2 for 0 fate). On top of that, with Night Raid you get a potentially bigger effect (2 cards might be worth more than +4, your opponent might attack with more than 2 chars) and a province strength of 4. The downside is that Night Raid happens only once, whereas Pilgrimage can negate any amount of attacks. Of course saying 1 card = 2 strength is true only in a very theorethical way, especially when it's your opponent who decides which cards to discard, so that's something to keep in mind, but I still think it makes for an interesting comparison.* Bottom line: I think Night Raid is stronger.

*Another possible comparison would be assessing the value of a potential trigger compared to discarding two cards, but that'd be complicated by other factors such as Ring availability.

The other natural comparison would be Mori Kuroi, but there's no doubt that that is far superior compared to Pilgrimage.

Sounds about right though I am wondering how much of a thing attacking for rings will be. I honestly don't know. Wonder if trying to triggering a ring will be more just a consolation when breaking a province seems out of reach.. But I can see specific ring effects making a significant impact at certain junctures of the game.

Maybe attacks for ring affects will be more of a thing going honor instead of military victory.

I would say this is a staple for Crab and Pheonix, as they seem to be the most defensively minded clans, but Pheonix' special province, Mori Kuroi, is also Void. So, if provinces work the way we suspect (only one of each ring type), that'll be a bummer for Pheonix and, really, anyone who has a special void province.

I fully expect honor and dishonor decks to be built around winning conflicts for Rings with breaking provinces being an occassional bonus while "Siege" decks ("military" doesn't really work for province breaking decks because powerful political decks can reliably break provinces) will see Ring rewards as partial victories when failing to break.

Or any one that has a special fire province (Night Raid) or any one that has a special (shameful display [fire? air]) province. I think the point is you are going to have good province choices for all the elements.

It should be a baseline for all current and future Void provinces.

Second highest province strength so far, Shameful Display is printed at 3 but has an average province strength of 6. I like this one quite a bit. I'm wondering if maybe this is signaling that void will have the provinces with the repeatable effects and all the other elements will have the one shot effects that could be really swingy?

Not impossible, but I doubt both Shameful Display and Defend the Wall are also void..

This province may interfere with other crab cards. There is one crab province that allows crab to get the ring effects when they win a defense on the province. Other crab cards may have that ability too. This province would interfere with that.

If they are both void, Crab will play Defend the Wall over this any day.

Anway, the card is ok. It's somewhat useful against poking (an opponent sending 1 guy simply to get a ring effect) but that's really like most cards when first encountered. I think I'd rather have a province that is more impactful like Night Raid or Shameful Display. But hey, it's better than Endless Plains.

Endless plains is really good.

Maybe they do. But that'd be weird, considering their province does that. I doubt they'll print an event version of their province. I'm pretty comfortable saying the Crab will love this province unless there is a better province interfering with the Void ring.

Is it just that if the attacker wins but doesn't break the province, he can't use the ring effect, or is there some ring effect that works during the battle, that won't work here? Or, is it anything that keys off the rings, like the Phoenix who has an ability only during a fire battle? I'd guess the first, which seems pretty weak, but maybe that's all that's needed with the 5 strength.

Any ideas?

I understood it as the first as well, it might cancel effects like Hotaru's as well, I'm not sure.. I don't think it removes elements and affects things like Masahiro's effect...

You make a good point. If you are going against crane you may want it to counter hotaru.

Seems solid to me. Counters both aspects of your opponents attack fairly well; high province strength, so hard to pop it, and negates initiating a challenge for a ring effect. In my rather limited playthroughs of the game, the latter seems to happen fairly often, so I think it's better than most people are giving it credit for. It's not Shameful Display, but it's still decent, and probably better than Elemental Fury.

I often seem to miss details in the ever-expanding wealth of info that has been revealed so far, however as far as I am aware the limitation of max one province per ring type is just a theory (albeit logical) rather than a definite known restriction. Have I missed something?

In my view it would make sense for certain clans and deck-types to focus more on particular rings - which would then require you to be able to select more than one province of the same ring-type.

I guess more will be revealed in the Crab spoilers?

It's an assumption born from the observation that there are now elemental symbols on the bottom corner of the provinces, and there are now five provinces you have to pick province cards for. It has not been confirmed or denied in any way.

It is also born from Brad Andres comfirming (I think on the reddit AMA) that these rings are deckbuilding restrictions. But you are absolutely right. We're all assuming.
