Individualized capital board ideas

By jabrams007, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

I posted this on another forum, but just for fun, I was trying to come up with some ideas for race specific capitals. Each race's capital board would have an ability or something that would distinguish it from the others, something that I'm blatantly stealing from the Legend of the Five Rings CCG. Here's what I've come up with so far, let me know what you think:

Dwarves - all zones in their capital have 9 hit points instead of 8

Humans - start with 4 hammers in their kingdom zone for extra money

Orcs - start with 2 hammers in their quest zone for extra card draw

Chaos - capital board has 2 loyalty symbols on it instead of 1

I tried to come up with ideas that fit the theme of the race, were not completely broken, and were also somewhat balanced against each other.

My alternate idea was for Chaos to get the 4 hammers in their quest zone, symbolizing how the taint Chaos can destroy and mutate a body (faster card draw = faster loss by decking out), but if I did that, I couldn't think of anything for the Orcs.

Anyone else have any ideas?

4 in quest is a lot, what about 2?

It only starts with 1 currently

Oops, that's what I meant. 2 in the quest zone.

I edited my original post to change this.

My only suggestion to FFG is... MAKE THE CAPITALS normal card size. I want to sleeve it, stack it on top of my deck, put the whole thing in a deck box and walk out the door! Why do they have to be so big???

I wondered the same thing, as one could certainly argue they are a bit over-produced (though with the upshot of compelling artwork and a greater sense of an "epic conflict", if you will). It seems they wanted to follow suit in some sense with Cthulu and A Game of Thrones with regards to their boards.

A single card would have the problem of stacking all those damage/burn tokens on them, so perhaps the best compromise would be 3 cards, one each for Kingdom, Battlefield, and Quest damage/resource placement and tableau orginization. Fits right in the ol' deck box.

I would rather have them make the capital boards as playmats. You could make some really cool art on them and still have the zones sectioned off, but it would add more protection for your cards/sleeves. Someone should print some and make some money.

I'm all for playmats and I love the original capital boards but here's another idea - you can scan the boards and print them on sticker paper just slightly larger than normal cards. Get some card sized cardboard pieces and wrap them in the stickers the same way the original boards are wrapped. Funny enough each BP comes with a useless piece of thick cardboard just the size of a card... You can even go wild in Photoshop and design your own boards using Warhammer art (download some nice wallpapers; get the faction symbols from the W:I product description page; improvise with the power icons and the border)!!

As for counters - get 4 or 5 small 6-sided dice; same for resources, only in different colour.

This way you can stuff your decks and a few dice in normal deck boxes and hit the road.

A tip: There are some great WoW:TCG tin boxes with art by Clint Langley - they come in a pack of two. Those two can be used separately or attached to ach other forming a huge box. Each of the two holds four 50 to 60 card decks in sleeves so that's more than you'll ever need.... and they were dirty cheap last I checked!

Bah, get a AGoT or CoC tin.

Also Jim at Litko Aero Systems will custom make pretty much whatever you want in the way of damage/resource/corruption/power tokens, and can probably do it as small as 15mm and for a decent price (for stuff that will never need replacing, anyway)...

My mini skulls, tiny gem-stone shaped counters and lil' chaos wheels all fit in a small baggy that also fits into the plastic Ultra Pro cardbox along with my deck!

Now if I could just figure out something he could do for the capitol boards that would fit as well...Any suggestions?

PS - He used to do a set specifically for Invasion...If you emailed him, he'd probably do another, or do the previous one smaller (which is what I did).
