L5R LCG and War of Honor?

By Fluke Starbucker, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Has anyone thought about compatibility of these two products? Of course you'd have to "ixnay" the enlightenment path. Does anyone still have their War of Honor game?

I have it, though I think it is cannabalized for the few useful cards out of it.

I suppose it would work, but it honestly felt very weak outside of the starter decks that came with it.

I do, but it's soon bound for the trash. I'm guessing the FFG's L5R will be incompatible with the mechanics of War of Honor.

I seem to remember one of the podcasts saying that they had some rules to make it compatible, but I can't remember which podcast that was.

FFG have pointedly not answered questions about multiplayer rules. We'll have a better idea when/if they announce whatever it is they're working on.

I very much doubt it will be compatible without heavy modification, though. Admittedly, I don't really remember WoH much.

Don't throw it out! The component slots make it an excellent box for the new game.

Oh, I could definitely see some thing like the VP system (or whatever it was called in WoH) in FFG's take on multiplayer.

I think that the specific mechanics (how much honor gain / dishonor / ect) would be trash, but the general mechanics (giving everyone a track for victory that is less dependent on the opponent losing) is still very relevant. I doubt we need the province chips with the new province cards, but again - specific mechanics aside - the general mechanics of giving some location to the provinces could be applicable.

All in all - I hope FFG has taken 3+ player games into account during game construction as that is the most important aspect. They have done it before.

Ultimately, I'm not sure I could tolerate the knowledge that there is no official way to play this game with three or more. Flavor and theme is a huge factor for me in any CCG I play, and having this LCG establish that conflict in L5R is never between more than two factions (and I use the term "faction" here not in the gaming sense but in the political sense; I understand we can splash a second clan in the conflict deck) would be a bit too much of a flavor miss for me.

That would be Focus Focus Strike (https://www.facebook.com/groups/474261189578043/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED); I believe, without looking back, that we covered that in Episode 002. Strictly speaking the rules aren't for Nufaivarr, they're for L5R Modern; but Murf promised that if there was enough demand (and once Nufaivarr has a rulebook), he'd do up rules that should work to meld FFG's game with War of Honor.

Oh boy, this reminds me that I still have those titles somewhere in the attic. Maybe it is time to find them.
