Leonx Preview...

By jek, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Weak.

I think the most important thing in this news article was when it said "before confronting the Uthuk Y'llan, we offer you...". So seems to imply that they will be spoilt next week?

Yes, it's good to finally see an official mention of them on the site. Also, are the "Locust Hoards" a reference to Uthuk too?

"...the Leonx Riders are ready to set forth and turn the predatory Locust Hoards into prey."

Yeah.

Leonx!!! This is the best preview! If I were to ever field an army entered in just one unit, this would be it. Lead by Alaina of course :)

I am confused now. I thought that "Latari" was one tribe of the eleven, but now we're reading about the Latari elves being composed of the " Verdelam" and "Eolam." It sounds like these are different tribes. So does the term "Latari" encompass all 10 tribes, excluding the Ynfetaar? I have to say, I actually like this a lot better. It would be weird to have a whole faction of elves based on just 1 of 11 tribes, which is what I thought after reading the lore guide. But I'm not convinced yet that Verdelam and Eolam are two of the eleven tribes.

That has to be the only news article ive seen that was about upcoming product that said literally nothing we didnt already know lol

It left me with more questions actually. Who/what are the Verdelam and Eolam. It does seem the locust hoarde is their most direct enemy. Thank goodness they do not swarm.

I'm pretty sure Latari refers to the nation as a whole and those others are tribes. As far as I knew, that was always the case though my knowledge doesn't extend to disk wars or anything that far back.

It's this line from the lore guide that trips me up:

"We bear the tears of our foremother. Our name speaks eternally of she who was first fallen and first forgiven. We are her eleven tears, and the Latari is one of the ten , for the eleventh now lives in shadow."

I just don't know what to make of this. I want to believe that Latari refers to the ten tribes, but the lore guide doesn't sound like that.

Perhaps Latari are the largest tribe? The others could be introduced as single units, using their tribe title instead of some seemingly random name tweak to signify the difference between these two units (such as eventually another Archer pops up, but designed completely differently since theyre not Latari even though theyre considered the Latari faction)

That's a good point. I suppose Verdelam and Eolam could refer to organizations or classes/castes within the Latari as well. For me though, it's just hard to believe that there are somehow NINE MORE tribes we have yet to receive details on. Very confusing...

Is that an legal formation in the picture? I mean the 4 wide Cav. unit.

I'm thinking Latari are just one of ten. The forest elves that live in the Amyhelin. The other 9 live elsewhere in the world. The names mentioned are tribes of Latari.

That's only 2 trays. Each tray has 2 figures.

Seriously, if locust hoards are a unit in this game, I'm going all in on the demon/barbarians

Other than the news item announcing the 3 Latari unit expansion boxes we haven't actually seen any previews of the unit expansions. While they have done small previews of the Character and Infantry Upgrade expansions the other Latari previews have all been of the Army Box. This does mean that we have a really good idea of the 12 upgrades that come in the Army Box though (I think there are possibly 2 generic upgrades that we don't know).

I can't wait for the moose riding hero and a ton of Leonx. Bring on the Latari Elves! I need to paint!

Actual locusts have never been part of their army, although they do have arthropods like Doombringers and giant two-tailed scorpions. Rather, the word Uthuk means locust in their native language. The leader of the Uthuk Y'llan -- Llovar Rutonu, who corrupted his tribe with demon blood -- was known as Llovar of the Locust because he came from the tribe of Uthuk. They weren't called Uthuk Y'llan until after the demon taint spread through their tribe.

It is Origins this week, so so maybe?

Hey I found the error! They're spelled "Loenx" in the last paragraph. Not a big deal at all.

I can't wait to see the Uthuk!

either i havnt been paying attention or there hasnt been any obvious rule flops in the RWM previews...unlike xwing which is literally every news article lol

Better or worse to have Loenx or Lenox riders.

Asking for a friend.
