Need help creating Sinjir Rath Velus, ex ISB Loyalty officer

By gdotbat, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have a player who wants to create a character pretty much exactly like Sinjir Rath Velus, ex ISB Loyalty officer, from the Aftermath novels.

Has anyone here built this type of character yet? Can I get some advice and direction I can use to help my player? Career, Talent Tree etc.

Thanks!

Hired Gun, - Enforcer , crossing into Marshall to become a better interrogator. IIRC Sinjir's initial training was as a rank and file stormtrooper, but he was picked from this to become an expert in interrogation. So Hired Gun provides much of the required stormtrooper background. Enforcer , takes on board his advanced training , and he was even a bad *** brawler , which does fit into the enforcer frame of mind. I say cross into Marshall because this allows you to pick up the talents that let you pick up on liars.

I would choose the spec you want, and just dip into the universal recruit spec to cover trooper training. Skip Tracer might work, too.

I recall that he was too tall for storm trooper training. The specifics of what he can do would probably be found in the Marshal Specialization.

It really depends on what aspect of Sinjir he is trying to reproduce. The character the book presents is one that is probably into the hundreds of experience points. So where does your player want to start?

He was an expert interrogator with a level of pain in his interrogations. So Coercion is a definite, I would have said Marshal as being the go to, but it doesnt cover the background training he had first, but if you ignore the trooper training and assume he was a good interrogator firstly and hand wave the military training in between as being inconsequential then pure Marshal works also.

Enforcer gets the best deal out of a high Coercion though (and streetwise, which Sinjir appears to know his way around criminals as well)

Oh wow! I hadn't even thought to look into Enforcer, its perfect for what this player wants. He basically told me he wanted a character like Hans Landa from Inglorious Bastards, I translated that to Sinjir as he hasn’t read the Aftermath novels, and when I explained Sinjir, the concept of the ISB Loyalty Officer sounded good to him.

Looking at Enforcer though I think has what he's really looking for, Intimidating, Fearsome, LOOM (wow!), and then dip into Marshall for the Interrogation and lie detection abilities.

Thanks for the direction guys!

Walk the Walk, Talk the Talk , Loom are three of my favourite talents. Unrelenting sceptic, and its improved variant are also good. Both Marshal and Enforcer synergise well off willpower but I would have suggested Guardian-Warden but , beinf Force sensitive may have been an issue.

Agitator with Recruit is not a bad choice either . Perhaps Agitator Enforcer.

I really hope there is a great Interrogator spec in the Spy book

Enforcer/Agitator is about the best interrogator type that you can presently craft in the system. The specialization skills pretty much duplicate one another, but you do get access to Deception, which ain't half bad.

What you do get is pretty brutal. Two specs giving you ranks of Intimidation, which makes it almost ridiculously easy to break someone. Even setback dice will barely phase you, since you'll have two ranks of Plausible Deniability. And with Nobody's Fool thrown into the mix, attempts to lie or sweet talk you are doomed to fail.

Once you get to the Scathing Tirade talents, sapping a prisoner's strain will be as simple as turning on the faucet. Even more so if you cut on them a bit with Stunning Blow. Physical torture, thy name is Stunning Blow.

The Hired Gun career comes with Discipline, which is your chief skill for sorting out deception and other falsehoods. Enforcer gives you the physicality for the concept. Both specializations grant you the ability to breeze through the underworld with ease.

I'm guessing that your character will be Human. So now you can get a free rank of Ranged (Heavy) and whatever else you'd like to help round things out. Maybe Cool to guard against charmers and negotiators.

This build is one of my favorites.
