Next Vassal Tournament?

By ryanjamal, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hey folks! A few months ago I think it was boardwars who hosted a huge Vassal tourney. At the time I was wading through a rough stretch in the school year (I'm a high school teacher) and had to sit that one out.

But now it's summer. So I needs more gaming :-). Are there Vassal tournaments going on right now and I just don't know about them? And is there some other place than here that I should check for a posting?

And if there isn't one going on soon, uh, does someone want to get on that? :-)

The reddit forum /r/ImperialAssaultTMG/ just finished up their tourney. So we're due.

I'm going to have a couple of really busy weeks coming up, so I can't be a Vassal TO this time. Can anybody else step into the role?

Looks like Reddit's running it back:

Awesome! Thanks @cnemmick!

Yay, can't wait to try this out! Just need to get some practice games with Vassal under my belt before! :D

Thanks for running another one @MegaSilver !

I'm happy to donate some promos for prize support too!

You mean mua?

Yeah, sorry I was late getting Season 2 up!

I usually post the next event signups halfway through the playoff season, but I got behind.

Only two days left for sign ups, in case this slipped anyone's mind :-)

How competitive are these? Is this Nationals type competition or is this more for fun and playing a crazy list? At only 1 game a week, I may be able to handle this. When do you have to play? I haven't done Vassal in a couple of months.

I'm interested in the answers to these questions as well. I've never played in a tournament but would like to do this in preps for my Store Championship in August. I've never played a Vassal game either though I downloaded it last week and have started trying to figure it out (watched the tutorial vid).

Would most folks be ok with a total vassal noob trying to figure things out the first couple of games?

I'm sure people would be happy to help you. If you want a rundown of Vassal during an actual game sometime before the tourney I'd be happy to play one with you anytime though.

I think people of varying skill levels play in these. You might play someone who's trying out some crazy list one game, and then play the world champion the next.

I'm still trying to decide what I want to play. Might try to give Imperials some love.

Even though I'm not an influencer, I think it would be great if you ran one of the Imperial lists you talked about before.

As DT said, it's probably a mix, but play however you like and enjoy! I'm probably using a list I'll be using in my next store championship tourney, but I'd love to face off against a Taste the Rainbow or double rancor double bantha list :-). Stuff like that is what makes IA awesome!

one more silly question. I signed up on the Challonge thing, do I need to sign up on Reddit as well?

There's a Google form on the Reddit post. You'll need to fill that out. It requires a link to your list on Tabletop Admiral's list builder -- you can find a unique link to your list at the bottom of the Tabletop Admiral page.

ONE MORE DAY FOR SIGNUPS, Y'ALL!

signed up yesterday, I'm looking forward to it but a little worried about trying to arrange matches vs people in US timezones

Might be worth doing a US and EU version in future? I'd be happy to help run an EU one

Aaaa I'm having so many problems with Vassal and I haven't even gotten to the game yet! Why is my deployment deck part of my command deck? Where is the deck I saved 35 seconds ago? Why can't I move cards to the "hand" after restarting the plugin? Tune in next time (maybe). :D

I've been trying to observe or watch recordings of as many Vassal games as I could in prep for my first actual match. Wondering if most people just use the chat/log window to communicate with their opponent or is there some voice/teamspeak type sever that allows for easier communication?

Most people use either the discord server for voice or the chat log for communicating.

Using voice chat makes things run way smoother, so I'd encourage new players to set that up.

  1. Join the Boardwars.eu Discord Server (and Skype as a fallback)
  2. Set up the Discord (and/or Skype) apps on your computer and/or smartphone (there are iOS and Android apps for both services, and voice chat will work well with just the headset that came with your phone)

Yea boardwars discord is the place to be!
