Scavenger Crane and Extra Munitions

By Archangelspiv, in X-Wing

Hey Everybody,

I was having a recent discussion with friends recently the discussion of Scavenger Crane being used with Extra Munitions came up. I was of the opinion that Scavenger Crane couldn't be used on EM because EM isn't discarded/turned face down after use. All it says is add a EM token to each ordinance you have at the start of the game.

Just thought I would post it here, see what people's opinions were.

What's the question?

If EM was somehow discarded it would become a valid target for the crane. The CARDS are valid targets but the tokens are not as they are tokens and not cards.

Yeah. If you have Scavenger Crane, EM, and a torpedo, you can have 3+ shots; but you're recovering the torpedoes themselves, not the Extra Munitions card. That said, I'm pretty sure that if EM WAS somehow discarded (e.g. Boba) you could recover it with the crane, since it's still a torpedo upgrade.

Technically there is an EM token on EM, so only a stupid Boba would select that card, as it would get rid of zero torps.

There is not really a way to discard EM since Boba and munitions failure just hit the token on EM(it's in the FAQ I believe). Many people don't put the extra munitions token on the EM card itself but it does get one since it is a torp.

I believe Boba could hit the actual Extra Munitions card IF the owner chose to discard the actual card instead of the token. Why he/she would do that I have no idea as it would also make any munitions tokens in play useless as they would no longer be defined.

Munitions Failure doesn't hit EM. It's not a secondary weapon.

Theoretically, if there was someway to get Boba back after triggering him, you could trigger him twice vs the Extra Munitions and then get it back with the Crane. But that's purely hypothetical and I don't think actually possible at this moment.

Realistically, you'll never discard Extra Munitions.

I forget that card even exists. Who uses the old deck anyway? A generic pilot player? But yes, Munitions Failure affects weapons, not upgrades if any certain type. You would still have to get rid of Snap Shot if you got this crit.

There is a FAQ about Boba and that. He can' get rid of the EM card.

Old dmg deck is superior in meaty squadrons that don't rely on EPTs/pilot abilities, like double ghost, 4xTLT and the like- there are a lot of cards in them that are effectively regular damage for those guys, and minor explosion is a pretty big deal as it deals a facedown damage rather than another crit.

It will probably see a good amount of play if the quad-auzituck list turns out good.

P.S. Old blinded pilot is hilarious in gunner/hotshot lists :P

A friend forgot his TFA damage deck and only had the original core damage deck with him. His stressbot Y lost his TLT in 2 games, probably the unluckiest night of casual gaming for the poor guy, it was hilarious!!!

Yeah, do NOT take the old damage deck if you use TLT or HLC.

I still think FFG should have remained adamant and banned the old damage deck from tournaments.

You sure about that? I know Boba's owner can't force the issue but if the owner of EM wanted to it should be possible although as I said I have a very hard time seeing why one would do so.

They can't because that may cut out anyone who hasn't bought the TFA set. I know this line of argument is stupid, but FFG need to appear as if they are keeping their tournaments open for everyone.

They could easily say that anything store champ or above needs the new deck. That won't affect any causal players or tournaments.

Using the old deck is really not an issue. It is just one more part of list building to choose from just like different obstacles, ships, and upgrades.

So was there any disagreement in your discussion group?

Scavenger Crane is pretty clear that it allows you to flip up a discarded upgrade card and the EM card is likely never discarded. So I'm not sure why there should be any disagreement on that.

The new deck is more fair, whatever you fly, whatever you fly against. That's why, to me, it's strictly better and should be used by everyone.

I agree, in a perfect world, that all games you play should be fair. But this game already has tons of unfair things in it that are way more meta warping then which damage deck you use. I just think it is no big deal.

Not a disagreement, just a discussion on the intricacies of getting them to work together, what order they would needed to be used in and is SC worth it if you do have EM. Just nerds being nerds and discussing things that have absolutely no impact in real life :)
