Getting back into the game. Imp list critique

By Vexbane, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello, everyone. I played this game when it first came out. I got back into it a few weeks ago at my LGS and the game has taken off there. My wallet is mad at me, but I have been enjoying playing again:) I decided on imps and have liked it so far. I have a list idea for the tourneys that have just started at the store. I played one game with list 2 and it was a win. Keep in mind though most all players (including myself) are new, but most of us have looked online and read up on lists that are being played etc.. and are pretty good at tactical games.

COLONEL SWARM 1

100 points

PILOTS

The Inquisitor (32)
TIE Advanced Prototype (25), push the limit (3), TIE/v1 (1), Stealth Device (3)

Colonel Vessery (39)
TIE Defender (35), Swarm Leader (3), TIE/x7 (-2), Stealth Device (3)

“Omega Leader” (29)
TIE/fo Fighter (21), Comm Relay (3), Juke (2), Stealth Device (3)

COLONEL SWARM 2

100 points

PILOTS

The Inquisitor (34)
TIE Advanced Prototype (25), push the limit (3), Proton Rockets (3), TIE/v1 (1), Autothrusters (2)

Colonel Vessery (37)
TIE Defender (35), Swarm Leader (3), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

“Omega Leader” (29)
TIE/fo Fighter (21), Comm Relay (3), Juke (2), Stealth Device (3)

The premise is to use the Colonel to deal tons of damage. Omega leader and inquisitor can get evade tokens rather easy to I thought they would make good wingmates. Any help appreciated.

The Issue I can see is your likely to not get enough use out of Swarm leader to make it really worthwhile . Taking the Evade from OL means your opponent knows his next action and removes the idea of K turns or sloops out for a round while you try to grab another Evade. Swarm leader wants just that a swarm, 4-5-6-7 ships on the board giving you multiple options to pull from without leaving people in danger helpless by taking evades away from them.

I personally just don't like the Prototype TIE Advance. One good shot and a pushed through Crit and it could be gone. Even a TIE/Ln can take a Direct hit and keep going. Others Love the ship and Inquisitor specifically so mileage may vary.

If you really want Swarm leader and a Defender I'd say Marek is the best option, same points as Vessery without needing a helper to activate his skill. Then fill with Basic TIEs to your liking. Recommend some Black Squadrons with Crackshot, and at least 1 Academy to block with. Though you could use variances as well as long as you have about 5-6 total ships.

You also have Swarm Leader on two ships, which is not allowed due to it being unique.

If you are going to be using the lists, I'd suggest the second one, but switch the Inquisitor's Swarm Leader to Push the Limit. That allows you to target lock and focus for some good hitting power.

Next, drop Omega Leader. He's a good ship, but as mentioned, he wants to keep the Evade, and Stealth Device on him (or Vessery) when they won't be taking many defensive actions, is a bad idea.

With the 29 points from Omega Leader you can grab some generic or low-PS-ace TIE fighters. Maybe Dark Curse and an Academy Pilot? That's two focus tokens to feed to Vessery (or, better yet, Maarek) on cheap bodies. Dark Curse even adds some targeting issues, as he can be a cockroach in the late game, and people might want to kill him while they can.
