Carrack cruiser design

By chr335, in Star Wars: Armada

Okay I love the Carrack cruiser from legends and have recently come up with an idea of how it might work in the game. Their would be two versions a laser cannon version and an ion cannon version.

Both hull 5 speed 4 with a similar maneuver chart as a raider. Squadron 1 command 2 engineering 3

Flack: front arc 4 dice three red one blue, side 1 red 1 blue, rear 2 red, anti squadron two blue. upgrades commander, officer, defensive, offensive, turbolaser

Ion: front arc 4 dice one red 3 blue, sides two blue, rear 1 red 1 blue, anti squad 1 blue. Upgrades: commander, officer, defensive, ion, turbolaser

Not sure of points but comparable to the Arquitens if a bit more expensive.

I just realized I forgot shields and defense tokens.

Shields 2 all sides

Defense tokens 2 evades brace and redirect.

Most of the firepower for a Carrack is located in their broadsides. I'd probably change the firepower to 2 front dice, 4 side dice and 1 or 2 rear dice. Maybe swap the offensive for a weapons team slot. Otherwise not bad!

Cool! Head over to KDY and make a card for it.

Even if you are just theory crafting for future ships. It is a fun and easy platform to use.

Maybe if you made one dice on the flak cruiser a black instead of blue blue antisquadron. Also drop one evade and give it a price reduction to compensate. Maybe also swap the turbo slot for an offensive retrofit on the ion one for capacitor shenanigans.

Flack cruiser updated

I would slow them to speed 3 and give them Weapon's Team slot instead of Defensive, since in EU they are mostly for patrolling duty and fighter supporting ships.

Speed 4 is definitely too much for a Carrack. They couldn't catch up with a CR90 or a Raider.

*sigh*

For the last time nobody is going to reintroduce any variation of the Space Dildo until it has a new ship design, no matter how iconic it may have been in the books.

They are faster then cr 90s in legends

That's quite the token compliment, brace AND redirect on a small ship?

I always thought the Imperial Light Cruiser was their attempt to have a stand in for Carrack.

Why have a stand in when you can have the real deal. A Carrack and Dreadnaught Heavy Cruisers would rock! They would sell well with all fans and get more legends folks in the game.

It's really difficult for something cylindrical with a pointed/tapered end to be not compared to or thought as phallus/phallic.

No, it's actually not. Never gave it a second thought until someone on another forum made the comparison.

They fire broadsides. A longer design makes sense. Same for the dreadnoughts.

Why are you so certain of that?

I've been a fan for over three decades, and drank up Legends fairly thoroughly, including the old RPG, which (iirc) brought forth the Carrack. To me, it looks horribly unremarkable, and seems to have been drawn by someone who did not get the scale memo. Where are the broadside guns it supposedly bristles with?

To me, it doesn't look phallic. It's just an elongated minivan that takes the little stormtroopers to soccer practice.

I've never been impressed with the models for the dreadnaught or the Carrack.

The ideas and the ships from the books? Sure. But until they show up in new canon, I don't want them in Armada. I really don't think it wild be anywhere near a large draw for older fans. And it would be a turn off for new fans.

I'd love for the ships to show up in new canon shows - but I'd really like someone to build new models for them first.

The Arquitens and Raider are far more interesting looking corvettes than the Carrack space brick. Honestly, it's one of the older creaky legends designs that I was never really impressed with. I'm happy for the breath of fresh air for new designs.

And for anyone asking, I'd take Fractal's Dreadnought redesign over the "canon" one.

Agreed, but even Fractal's Dreadnought might get in trouble with whomever own the Battlestar Galactica IP, should that design be used for miniatures that are going to make money.

Hey there,

are you talking about this one: http://fractalsponge.net/?p=1701 ?

Just curious, because i'm an IP guy and I wanna make sure i'm looking at the right design before I hop into my own analysis for funsies.
