If you're hoping for V-Wings or N-1s, your hour might be soon

By UnitOmega, in X-Wing

Gameplay trailer for Battlefront II has come out. In both it and the livestream they did today, they very heavily featured N-1 and V-Wing fighters as vehicles, although obviously for the Republic side (it was a PT era match) but there seems to be a little bit of cross era. BFII was pretty interesting for bringing the Raider front and center into the canon, which means that FFG may have been involved in swapping some notes - it's entirely possible they'll pull this back the other way and pull ships which appear to be getting a lot of feature into the game back in. Interestingly the N-1 seems to have an "Astromech" ability that the V-Wing does not. Either way, looks like lots of fun action for fighters.

Food for thought.

I thought the same thing! I'd love to see the N-1 for Rebels and the V-wing for Imperials. We have canon sources that confirm both afilliatons (shattered empire for N-1, Thrawn and Tarkin for V-wing).

The theed map is gorgeous. I have a feeling it might be one of the most popular new maps.

I hope not.....

I want the V-Wing and N1 both to be Rebel ships!!!

Crossing my fingers the inclusion of the prequel era in battlefront doesn't impact xwing at all. I can stomach the ships as long as FFG does what they need to to fit them into a timeline outside of the prequels, but man... hearing those droid's dumb squeaky voices reminded me a little too well of just why I'd prefer the prequels stay as far away from xwing as possible.

Still don't think speeders should be in x-wing, v-wing belongs in a epic style game with snowspeeders and the like.

I'll not be buying battlefront two after the first one was so undercooked.

V-Wing is still not a speeder, but ok. The old V-Wing from the Rogue Squadron games is what you're thinking of, and it's non-canon to boot.

Yeah, this is the CW (and some Rise of the Empire, Tarkin does fly one in his novel) Alpha-3 Nimbus V-Wing, not the airspeeder.

I also recommend checking out some of the material - EA is going hard with "we heard your feedback and have made improvements". All 3 eras, single-player campaign, classes and better progression, and no Season Pass to get updates - all DLC free.

If this part alone is true, i'm actually pretty interested. Cautious, but interested.

Direct quote from the EA Play event earlier today. Themed seasons of content at no additional charge - post-launch heroes, vehicles, weapons, maps will be free if you own the game.

Looks very good! It's very ambitious (the 3 eras in a game), but I hope it doesn't turn too shallow like the first one.

PS: At least in the trailer we don't see Rey fighting Maul in the Clone Wars (like in the alpha gameplay video). I hope the heroes of each map in the final release are specific for their eras.

Confirmed heroes so far:

Yoda (on the trailer/pre-order bonus) & Maul (on the gameplay)

Han & Boba Fett (both on the gameplay)

Rey (on the gameplay) & Kylo Ren (on the trailer/extra outfit announcement)

Finn & Phasma (both in the first DLC)

and of course we can expect Luke & Vader. I can't imagine the basic game coming without them.

I hope they keep them to their respective eras too and that this was probably the stuff they just had working the best/wanted to show off at this point in time. I think there was a survey or something they had asking if people cared about if the heroes from their eras should be locked to them or not and I think the response was not, so it might be weird seeing PT, OT, and ST heroes fighting it out. I'm just hoping they decide to keep everything to the correct era, save for maps since it adds more variety.

Sorry, rebel and scum only. Don't worry imps will get another TIE fighter. :D

I love all posts on possibility ... It keeps HOPE alive.

I was just thinking this earlier today watching these videos. They are putting the N-1 and the V-Wing right back in the middle of the public eye. FFG has got to see that and think of bringing them into play. Maybe the Vulture Droid as well.

I'm good with this.

Eheheh. Eheeeheeeeeeheeehe.

Nah buddy we're talking about the real, actual V-Wing. Not that overcooked, "Why isn't it a starfighter, exactly?" New Republic "Airspeeder".

What about the Assault Gunboat (and the Missile Boat)? :(

I mean, DICE brought back the TIE Defender in a DLC. So we'll have to see full lists when it hits and future updates - but right now BFII pushed very hard on Theed map, multiple eras and a lot of coverage on the air-game element.

Sorry to disappoint (but also not sorry cuz I think it's awesome): the gameplay on Theed had Darth Maul running about... as well as Rey, Han and Boba.

I saw that. That's why I said: "I hope the heroes of each map in the final release are specific for their eras."

Ah, fair. I've seen developers comment that they're not entirely sure yet. My guess is it'll be mostly mixed but there'll be prequel, OT, and sequel playlists.

My takes on the N-1, Vulture, Eta-2 and V-wing.

If the Empire gets V-Wings, i doubt it'll be what ya'll are thinking. Imperial V-Wings, in the like, 2-3 years they were still officially in service with the Empire after the Clone Wars before phase-out(and, remember, the Galactic Civil War era is what the game is based around. When the V-Wing is phased out of service with the other Clone Wars fighters, it's still a good decade until the Rebellion is a legitimate threat to the Empire, thus beginning the GCW), all those V-Wings were retrofitted to remove the Astromech. If the Empire by some miracle gets the V-Wing, it SHOULDN'T have an astromech slot.

In all likelihood, i do Scum as the most likely recipient of the V-Wing. But i've had this discussion at least 6 times already.
