Imperial Campaign Tutorials?

By TallGiraffe, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I wanted to start a campaign with some friends and family. Does anyone have any video or written tutorials for how I would need to play the Imperials?

You must crush the rebels. See them driven before you. And to hear the lamentations of their women. I personally don't play to make the game fun. If they are getting cocky I'll turn it up, but I like everyone to have fun. I run it more like a GM than an opposing player.

Yea I get that part. I just want an overview of mechanics and how the imperial side is ran.

Have you....considered reading the rules?

I'm not quite sure what you want. You should be able to get an idea of the mechanics from reading the rules and the campaign missions. Is there something specific you want to know?

I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for. I will say that the best resource is certainly the Learn to Play guide and the rules reference guide books that come with the core set. As far as just seeing how the gameplay works, I searched for videos on YouTube that showed people playing a campaign mission. It's a good way to see how game play mechanics happen.

I had never played anything remotely like this game, so my head was spinning trying to figure it out. Here is an Example campaign play video on YouTube (its the first mission named Aftermath from the core box). It shows how the rebels activate a figure first, then the Imperial Player activates a figure and performs his actions, then a different rebel figure activates and so on until all figures on both sides have finished activating. At that point it's the end of the round. All of these steps are explained pretty well in the Learning To Play guide. However, I agree with you ,when you are really new to these types of games sometimes seeing it in action helps to understand how it works.

I found it took awhile before I finally got it, it takes some searching on this site and boardgamegeek.com to understand the rules. This community is really helpful with rules questions. Just have patience, it may take some time but it's definitely fun. Our family has done two campaigns together and it's been tons of fun.

Good luck!

To be more exact you activate groups during the activation phase. On the rebel side each hero or figures on an ally deployment card is a group, on the imperial side all figures on one deployment card is a group.

You won't learn everything at once and at first you will make rules mistakes, but that's why you get to read the rules after each play.

I suggest trying the Tutorial mission by yourself first.

(And remember that videos very often contain rules mistakes, so they are not substitute for reading the rules yourself.)

if you want in-depth:

here is what we did: we started playing with basic knowledge and if we had a question, consult rules and reference guide.

Guys... I'm sure he knows the game came with a rulebook...

Clearly he's looking for other help.

Here's a video I did with my old YouTube channel. It covers just the very basics, but it should be enough to get you on your feet. Hope it, or something else, helps! Now go crush those Rebel scum! ;)

The rules tell you how to play the game, but finding the threat value for each mission, knowing how to use influence and doling out experience, managing the other players etc is not always easy on the fly. I've found it fairly difficult just because I get all my expansions mixed up. Skirmish is slightly different than campaign rules and most new players are looking to the GM to help them learn the rules as well
