Nah I'm trying to understand what his point is. I've seen plenty of "inadequate people" of all ages who prefer to live in ignorance and are extremely "un"-humble when people to to educate them, even on the simplest of things. Like taking care of their body so they don't die. Or explaining to them why it's unacceptable to be racist/sexist.
I'll admit being educated increases your chances of depression because you realize how awful the world is, but I'd take that over being willfully ignorant and "inadequate" of the world around me. At least I can try to change it instead of accepting it as it is.

I would say "inadequacy of thought" seems more like the lack of ability or desire to properly think things out. Not a lack of knowledge, but an inability to do much with any knowledge. I'm not saying that necessarily applies to anyone.
