Jake and Jan Ors crew card

How does that interaction work. Are you able to still use his ability if you perform a focus action but turn it into an evade?

You assign an evade token "instead". So I assume no interaction at all

Edit: I see what your asking. If you take the evade token instead, do you still get the BR/Boost. Sorry, I'm not really sure about that

If Jake performs a focus action, then you can trigger his pilot ability and Jan Ors because performing the focus action satisfies the text on Jake's card.

If Jake is assigned a focus token from another source, then Jan Ors would change it to an evade before Jake receives it, so no free boost or barrel roll.

Jan Ors: Once per round, when a friendly ship at Range 1-3 performs a focus action or would be assigned a focus token, you may assign that ship an evade token instead.

Jake Farrell: After you perform a focus action or are assigned a focus token, you may perform a free boost or barrel roll action.

Not entirely sure, but it sounds like Jan Ors triggers just a little before Jake Farrell, and would replace the focus token with an evade token. If Jake performs a Focus action, then he may still trigger since he still performed a focus action even if an evade token was assigned to the ship. If he would be assigned an focus token from a different source and it is replaced with an evade token by Jan Ors, I'm thinking Jake would not trigger since he was assigned an evade token instead of a focus token.

I guess I should be a little more specific. The question is referring to his perform focus ability not the assign part.

If you perform a focus action with Jake, wouldn't Jan have to change it to an evade before you could boost or barrel roll? I would think that if you focus, then boost, that now Jan's timing window has passed

Personally I believe when Jake performs a focus action that satisfies the ability first. What token is actually placed afterwards shouldn't matter. Just want to know if there is a definitive answer out there.

Yes. The trigger for Jan is "when" and the trigger for Jake is "after" so it should go like this:

1 - Jake performs a focus action.

2 - Jan Ors assigns an evade token instead.

3 - Jake boosts or barrel rolls.

If you Boost or Barrel Roll first, then the opportunity for Jan Ors was missed.

I'm still thinking backward on this maybe, but seems like if you place the evade token next to the ship, no boost or barrel roll

Only if the token was assigned from a source other than performing a focus action, like Jyn Erso or Kyle Katarn. The key here is the text "would be assigned a focus token" on Jan Ors. The token hasn't been placed yet. If you trigger a Jan Ors in a situation like this, then as far as Jake is concerned the Focus token never existed.

In the case of a focus action, Jan Ors does not change the action Jake performed, only the token assigned to the ship when the action is performed. Jake can trigger his ability after he performs a focus action. It doesn't matter if Jan Ors changed the type of token while the action was happening.

The token is not important. If jake performs the focus action it satisfies his ability regardless of if the token placed on him is a focus or an evade.

Getting it now, I concur
