Metal Peg Replacements

By Guest, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

So, long story short ... peg broke ...

I wont go into it ... yeah ... stupid accident while painting.

Therfore I am looking for ideas to replace the standard plastic pegs of small ships with some kind of metal rods or something similar.

Thx in advance.

Honestly.i would fly and continue to use the stick pegs.

It is actually less of a hassle.

I've done some of the magnet mods and over time, the stick plastic legs are just less finicky overall.

But...if you must...

Any hardware store will have threaded rod in various sizes and nuts and washers etc.

I'm leaving the autocorrect stuff... because it amuses me.

There was a fellow here that replaced his pegs with brass rods. Anyone else remember something like this?

Brass rods! Sounds interesting. Got a link?

I am thinking about buying some brass rods at my local hardware store.

Still trying to figure out how to attach them to the base...

On the Left side.

I don't remember how the guy attached the brass rods, but I imagine there was drilling involved. Magnetizing your ship would be a lot easier.

I considered CorSec. But shipping is way too much.

I am planing on useing brass rods in combination with magnetized ships. I'll give it some time. Ideas tend to have a timing of their own ?

Thank you for your inputs.

This is what I've been using for my custom ships. Great quality stuff but their customer service is among the worst I've ever seen. You'd better hope your order is correct when it's sent because they're nearly impossible to get a response from. I've been trying to get a custom base made from them for around month now. I got a quote for the cost after a couple weeks of badgering but haven't heard from them again in the past couple weeks. Still, I placed a couple more orders since because, like I said, their stuff is top quality and I did get my first order from them after a month of waiting.

TLDR:. Great stuff. Be prepared for a looong wait. Poor customer service.

I magnetize all of my ships
I've been using 3mm brass rods for months as replacement B-Wing and Protectorate Ship Pegs as they can be easily bent 90 degrees

they are cheap and simple the only thing i needed to do extra was drill out the peg slot in the base with a 3mm drill bit
and don't require to be glued into place so easy for transport
you can find them in any good model or RC shop

Perfect! Thats exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for the insight.

happy to help mate

I've wondered about this. Do you do anything to secure the rod to the base or does it just fit in tightly enough to stay put when you pick up the ship?

Hey Bullox
mine fit well enough to pick them up & place them plenty of times without problems
if you use a 3mm brass rod or whatever rod but 3mm
and a 3mm drill bit through the base they fit snug
make sure that you drill at 90 degrees through the base so you have a solid seal
they work especially well if you also spray them with either a varnish or as i do a black undercoat spray (my bases are all sprayed black)
they fit really well and don't seem to have any problems (7+ months on and nothing so far)
yeah after a time they will loosen up i imagine
but then you just glue them or place a little bluetac or foam padding underneath the base to stop slippage

if anyone would like me to take pics of my B-Wing and PSF's to show examples i'd be happy to ?

cheers
