Regarding Spirit of the Rebellion boosters

By dragonfly22588, in Star Wars: Destiny

Browsing Barnes & Noble yesterday I happen to see Destiny starter packs available which was a first for me - 2 Rey and 3 Kylo. They have definitely been reprinting starters and will continue to do so for the rest of the year based on demand. Unfortunate that it seems the Awalenings reprint is extremely low.

I understand putting the starters into circulation at a general retailer but without a single booster pack available I fail to see how they can really attract casual gamers this way. The starters don't provide a full game experience and the booster sets are limited print runs. I don't think you can attract casual gamers by selling half a game via starters with no available boosters for the full experience. While it seems there is enough SOR product available now at game stores and online, I don't see this holding over for months until the next set and I don't see B&N securing enough booster product to make any difference. Seems those starters would be better distributed to flgs'. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have the option of picking up a few boosters on any given day at B&N but will availability ever really be there based what we've seen thus far?

I can and I make break down and do that eventually, But a lot of online stores are sold out and there is just something about spending $10.00 a card that I just can't do.

Well not yet.

I felt that way in Mtg "im not spending $10 on Verdant catacombs!" Wish i bought 100 of them now lol.

Not saying that jetpack will be the same just relating the feeling haha

I know it hurts, but years of MTG taught me that after a box or two, cracking packs is a suckers bet...

I usually stop when I have a playset of all the commons and uncommons. SoR cards are $1 for a common and $2 for an uncommon here and they go up from there, so I figure it's the safest bet until I get bored or more focused.

Having played MTG for the better part of 20 years I too know that pain. Having said that Destiny is a different beast, the complete lack of any sort of limited formats means that there aren't surplus amounts of cards being opened every Friday night, which in turn flood the market with an oversaturation of cards to trade.

With MTG where players that play limited primarily or exclusively, they cash in their draft cards for more credit to draft thus supplying the shops with singles to sell to the constructed players, destiny doesn’t have this so there just isn't an oversupply of trades around. To that end opening boxes is still a pretty good prospect, considering the single values of most legendries your almost guaranteed a positive EV for every box you crack if you are willing to sell everything in it.

This may change in the future but for now If you can get your hands on stock to crack and sell then you're more likely going to make a profit than lose money on it.
