Happy Friday

By Cubanboy, in Star Wars: Armada

Another one has come and the weekend is looking great,

This week I wanted to ask what would be more exciting, Scum ships or Ep 7/8/9 ships?

Probably episodes 7/8/9 stuff for me. Happy Friday.

Going to say something terribly controversial here... I'm not a Star Wars fan...

No, really. I'm not. I can take or leave any of the movies, if I'm honest. I've never read the books or comics. What I did love, was the 90s flight sim games, because they were god-tier. They're also why I picked up X-wing. BUT, the reason I picked up Armada (apart from seeing some rather awesome displays at the 2016 UK Nationals that hooked me in) was that I utterly love the scale of the fleet engagements. Massive, professional fleets in serious, often slow, but incredibly deliberate and methodical actions against one another.
I'm not at all sure Scum could provide that without some severe warpage of the gamestate. Thematically, people may or may not like the idea of a Scum faction, but for me it's more about the game impact. I've been with X-wing since Wave 2 released, so I've seen the progression through waves into a warping of the game by the introduction of a third faction that didn't have a single identity, so much as an accumulation of many. It's still causing ripples in the game, all this time later, and every now and then FFG throws another stone in that pond.

The reason I say I'm not a Star Wars fan is that I may be missing some lore that points to a cartel or some such that could work as a third faction outside of the realms of just a hodge-podge of mercs using "stolen ships" from the Rebels for the sake of kick-starting a fleet (see the "Most Wanted" pack in X-wing). I'm happy to hear the arguments for/against a third faction that would work that I don't know about, but I'm not super into the idea of a mix'n'match Scum faction again. It just about ties together in X-wing, but the scale of Armada doesn't feel like it lends itself to that.

I'd also be shocked if we weren't going to see more of the new trilogy ships, anyway. TFA didn't really give us anything, but Rogue One certainly did. The teaser for Ep8 also seems to point to a big ol' duke-out on a grand scale, so I'm sure we'll get plenty to run with from there. I know there's a lot of debate over the size of those odd-looking Rebel ships (I think called out as bombers?) the Xs, As, and TIEs were fighting around, but they look to me like they're Gozanti/Transport size, which could make for an aggressive flotilla in future. At the very least, I'd be surprised if an Ep8 ship release didn't also include a squadron pack with T70s and TIE /fo, among others.

I want factions other than scum, but I feel like its even less likely to happen.

Despite my blasphemy.

I think they should consider clone wars, so much to choose from, 2 new factions with Republic and Separatists. Maybe the Chriss (then they can go to town with Thrawn)....

Happy friday @Cubanboy ! For me it's Episode 7/8/9 ships. Looking for more spiky looking Star Destroyer type ships! ;) :D

Happy friday Cubanboy! Happy friday to the usual suspects :D

Hmm, if it was a "mercenary" scum faction that could be added to Imp or Rebel factions as well as standalone, then sure. Otherwise i'll take episode 7-9 stuff.

I need to finish my epic-campaign system. It covers all sorts of options when it comes to more factions.

Honestly, I'm not enthused by either at the moment, if anything, 7-8-9 ships going forward are my preferred, but only by a very small margin (the desire for both is near zero)

I don't think we've got enough set down in the two factions we have right now - the Meta swings wildly with almost every new release, and I like that, as old becomes new and new is tacked on.

If they were going to do a 3rd faction, I'd only really be happy if they added something unique to the game, and were basically released with enough "good to go" that they aren't playing Catchup for 3-4 waves.

That is what is referred to as a Rotating Supercell Thunderstorm.

A beautiful depiction of one, anyway, before it actually starts forming a Funnel Cloud.

Supercell -> Funnel Cloud -> Tornado, basically.

But this one didn't seem to develop much further than that (yet).

And we've got a good 'nother Hour and a Half of storm fronts moving in from the Southwest that all have a Severe - 4/5 Rating for Tornado Development.

Considering how big a pile of crap I thought TFA was and that Hamill has pretty much trashed the script for TLJ I'm not much enthused for anything from 7,8,9.

I'm against Scum for a few reasons, starting with the fact that all of FFg's star wars games with a Scum faction are terribly balanced and ending with the fact that there is almost no significant support of such a faction from Disney's storytelling team so far (maybe this will change in a future film or TV series).

And That expands beyond just the issue of ships. After Jabba the Hutt and Boba Fett, which iconic Scum characters are there? We have a handful of bounty hunters, possibly Hondo Onakah. But realistically, Jabba and Hondo are the only two potential options for a Commander, and the others are basically just snub fighter pilots. Prince Xizor? Doesn't exist in the new canon, even if Black Sun does.

All the things you need for a Scum Faction either don't exist, or would ned to be radically reintroduced into the new canon.

WELP. So much for my honeymoon to Canada.

If we couls choose only from those two then Scums.

But I would prefer some EU stuff or if that is not possible Clone Wars era gear. Acclamators and Venators for everyone!

Oh and Dreadnoughts. Defintely Dreadnoughts!

I vote for 7/8/9, but would like clone wars factions more

Clone Wars factions.

What do you mean that wasn't an option? Well, neither then! :P

Uk is well hung

We are so hung.

Bald Eagles look at this and say "hey, remember when we skipped Canada and went straight to Alaska? Good times!"

Also, Tornado Alley apparently has a border crossing. Build that wall!

(As a California - American, I'm better than the rest of you. Also, yikes. Stay safe, as is tradition.)

Quote. Of. The. Day.

:D :D :D

I'd definitely rather have 7/8/9 ships than a Scum faction. I think scum should be mercenaries hire-able by Rebels and Imps.
