Marking Dice

By sim1killa, in X-Wing

What is an acceptable way to mark dice so they don't walk away?

Count them. You bring 6 reds to the table, your opponent brings 6 reds to the table. You each leave with 6, no problem. Usually you roll your dice on your half of the table if there's not a dice box. It's really hard to mix up dice, but it does happen, but as long as you leave with the same number, it's not really a problem.

Unless they are special prize dice are already marked by FFG. If you don't want them walking, I suggest getting a dice bag you can slip into your pocket when you leave the table for a bathroom break or whatever. I hate to say this, because this community really is better than most, but there's still a couple bad eggs who wouldn't mind swiping worlds dice to sell for $300+ on ebay.

Most common other method is taking a sharpie and putting a dot/ design on each one of the blank faces. Those won't affect role chances or the balance because 8 sided dice are already nearly impossible to balance (at least X-wings are anyway), so a little marker isn't going to magically make all of your hits to crits or anything like that.

Blow your nose in front of people then wipe snot on your dice, I can promise you they will not walk away.

Do that on your asteroids to and your opponent will avoid them completely. Extra points if you have iniative and place them all a minimum allowed range from his table edge.

Although if you did this you'd probably make FFG put a "biohazard" rule in the FAQ....

Holy cow, that looks cathartic.

I picked myself up the finest point liquid paint marker I could find. I went with silver for both color dice.

The difference is subtle, but clearly identifiable and easy to tell the difference from standard dice.

I wouldn't be surprised if these aren't allowed in organized play though.

Actually, you're fine. The tournament rules do allow for players to mark dice "in an unobtrusive manner" to indicate ownership (p.6, under "Component Modifications").

I used a blue sharpie to make the irises on my focus sides blue. Supes easy.

Blue on red dice is a change of colour that could potentially lead to confusion. You might be okay though... :P
