@DaverWattra what do you think we should do? Just pick a random scene from somewhere and go at it?
Ebb/Flow
The duel on Mustafar? Cloud city?
Rooftop? Alley? Warehouse? Docking bay? It needs elevation, scenery, Long range and probably no one else.
Ooh, you could both get free breath masks and space suits then replicate the epic battle on the outside of a star destroyer from the core book.
3 hours ago, Decorus said:Well its basic math.
You get a total of 270 xp with a human knight level character.
Ebb and flow will cost you 110 xp
Now you can get to a +1 force rating in 95 or so xp.
Thats 205 xp leaving you with
65 xp for stats and skills (You know the thing you need for Ebb/Flow to be effective)
So basically you have a one trick pony who can't even effectively use the trick its bad character design for a knight level character.
When you show up on the forums going I've banned this power from my campaign and I think its badly written power creep thats indicative of bias.
Your not looking for people to convince you otherwise you have already made up your mind you just came here for validation. Now your upset that someone called you out on it.
Wrong and wrong.
I don't need 110 XP for Ebb and flow. I need 60. Not sure where you got 110 unless you are talking the whole tree, which my original example never used. In fact it explicitly called out "60 XP".
Furthermore, what else do I need to spend experience on? I can easily have a 4 in my primary stat, and two threes in secondary stats with my starting XP, which is a typical build. Or if using a Human in your example, I can have a 4 and a 3, and XP left over. Starting skill ranks will give a solid foundation. After spending 60 XP on Ebb/Flow, I can spend 75 to get a FR increase. The remaining 15 - 20 XP (depends on mentor bonus or not) gives some boost to some skills. 2 yellow 2 green in a primary ability is a solid die pool. And with Ebb/Flow I can get my FD on any skill check I make. That sounds like a fine character build to me. In fact, I would submit it is the general template of many Knight level characters;most starting XP on Characteristics, then the remaining XP on talents to get a FR increase and dipping into a Force Power tree to use that FR. It is hardly the "one trick pony flawed character" you try to make it out to be.
There is no "indication of Bias." I have stated my opinion based on my review of Ebb/Flow and I provided facts to back it up. How is that bias? Because I believe something I researched? Others have shown some facts to counter my assertion, which is exactly why I started this thread. Some of these posts have me reconsidering my position. You however have replied with cliches and ad hominem attacks that are not backed up by anything.
With that, I think we can both agree to disagree and cease further commentary that is not constructive on this thread.

Yeah, let's get it started! I'm happy to just "GM" each other's moves.
I say we choose Vigilance vs Cool for initiative, and starting range band, at random.
How about we do battle in the long-lost Valley of the Jedi?
For keeping track of dice and DP, does the Owen Mead dice roller work for you? https://dice.owenmead.com/ We could call the room DaverVsAPW or something like that.
cannyou explain how the FD get added to your skill check, I'm getting confused by that and as you understand it a bit of explaination would really help me!

That works! I usually use orokos.com for the BBCode, but I like the addition of the Destiny Points in the Owen Mead roller.

That could work. Would this be of any use? Thinking maybe about the Meditation Complex. Seems like a great place for a duel...hallways, adegan crystal chamber, observation pinnacle!

When shall we reveal our characters? Shall we put them up on swsheets.com?

I made my guy in OggDude, so I'll just post the sheet here... bit heavy on Talents, but that's lightsaber fighting at low-to-mid XP.
Here's a cool picture of a Gran Jedi I found:
Although as a Makashi master, he fights with a curved saber.
Shall we start a new thread for the actual battle? I like the idea of fighting in the Meditation Complex. How many range bands long should we say the complex is? Maybe set it so the distance down the center from the crystal chamber to the entrance is Long?
Ive just thought of a few things to do with the committ effect on the bottom tier. commit an FD then you gain a force dice on every skill check , you gain success or advantage for every pip rolled and gain conflict and strain for every dark side pip used. As this is not limited to a single use you could commit 4 dice and gain 4-8 advantage or success on every roll , however how does the rest work if you are dark sider , do you play strain for using light side pips only, both light side and dark side pips , or is it verbatim what the force ability says that ypu pay strain for uaing dark side pips only. (forgive me if thia ia covered in the full description, as Im away from book.)
Seems a mighty quick way to fall ( to the dark side and with strain damage)
My feeling is that upgrade is written assuming the User is Light Side. I would change it for Dark Siders to be: LS = 1 Strain, DS = 1 Conflict. The big benefit is you don't need Destiny to draw upon the other side of the Force.
But if the Devs clarify that it's written correctly then it doesn't really matter that much, it just gives Dark Side characters a way to use the Light easily while suffering from the DS.

Not that I think this option is likely , but imagine how rough it would be for the darksider to pay strain for both.

Right on! Yeah let's go ahead with a new thread. 130 meters sounds like long range to me, definitely. Shall we flip a coin for Vigilance vs. Cool? And also, I use dark side Destiny and you use light side Destiny, right? We'll probably want to roll that up too. (Edit: the Force is not with me )
And yes, I did the same, used OggDude's generator, so I'll just go ahead and post it up on OneDrive as a PDF: https://1drv.ms/b/s!ApsITI_KCIhsgcgQWvNCXylJgqO_gw
Following is a description and stat block for kicks and giggles.
Gavin Tylorosa, human Guardian, Defender of the Hidden Truth
Gavin is a Jensaarai Defender, and also happens to be wearing Cresh "Luck" Armor (samesies)! But this armor has the Cortosis quality, which I got by spending basically all my credits including 2,500 from the Morality bonus, and then buying all the way down to Tinkerer to actually get enough hardpoints to install it
I didn't really work it into his backstory, but his armor is modified and designed around the concept of the strill, a hunting animal native to Mandalore; one of which he had as a pet growing up. This is reflected in his gear that he keeps on his person, which included an anti-grav chute and climbing gear, and scanner goggles. I found a picture online that is of the Force Hound Xesh, from Dawn of the Jedi. I liked it so ran with it
The scanner goggles are flavored as a non-protective helmet, and he has the Quick-Draw talent with which he can ready his climbing gear, so it's flavored as being "attached" to his armor, even though it can be dropped and such. His lightsaber is a deep purple, and I didn't change the "basic lightsaber" moniker, so as to reflect the lack of attachment Jensaarai have to their sabers (compared to the Jedi—normally I will note a lightsaber as belonging to a PC, e.g. "Gavin's lightsaber").
Backstory: Gavin is a Jensaarai Defender, on a quest to destroy the remnants of the evil Jedi order. Unknown to him, his parentage was not favorable. His father was a member of the Death Watch terrorist group and his mother a member of a secret society of Sith acolytes. When the Jensaarai were formed, however, all knowledge of his parents' past lives were swept under the rug and Gavin was given the position of Defender. He knows not that he is little more than a tool being wielded by the master of the Jensaarai, herself an adherent to the old Sith ways.
Morality: 50; Strength/Weakness: Disciplined/Dogmatic. Gavin is disciplined in his studies and lifestyle, but this hardness of mind also results in a very dogmatic outlook. It is hard to convince Gavin that he is wrong, since these beliefs have been drilled into him since childhood.
Motivation: Survival. It is crucial to Gavin that the fledgling Jensaarai order should survive past his generation. And for their survival, he must also survive. He is therefore vigilant, cautious, and merciless in his dealings, especially if he believes there to be a credible threat to his own safety or the security of the Jensaarai.
Somehow, most situations seem to end up being credible threats.
Species: Human (Mandalorian)
Career: Guardian; Specializations: Armorer, Shii-Cho Knight
Attributes: Wound Threshold 19; Strain Threshold 16; Defense: Ranged 1, Melee 2; Soak 7.
Characteristics: Brawn 4, Agility 2, Intellect 2, Cunning 2, Willpower 3, Presence 2
Skills: Discipline 3, Lightsaber 4, Resilience 2, Vigilance 1
Talents: Armor Master, Improved Armor Master, Defensive Training 1, Durable 1, Gearhead 1, Grit 3, Imbue Item, Parry 3, Improved Parry, Quick Draw, Second Wind 2, Tinkerer 1 (Cresh armor), Toughened 2
Equipment: Basic lightsaber w/ magnetic weapon tether (Damage 6, Crit 2, Qualities: Breach 1, Sunder, Defensive 1, magnetic weapon tether: wielder may recover engaged lightsaber as an incidental); Cresh "Luck" armor w/ cortosis weave (Soak 2, Cortosis, automatically adds 1 Advantage to Vigilance checks); Stimpack (4); Savior anti-grav chute (take no wounds or strain falls); climbing gear; scanner goggles.
