Yeahhhh, there are still loads of people I hope can still make it in. We need to find out whether people with general tickets will need to get a box from the FFG booth in the dealer hall first. Then if they do, we can maybe have people with spots wait in line at the FFG booth while people without que up for general admission to the tournament. Time might be an issue if the lines in the dealer hall are big enough. Hopefully FFG is considering this and is making sure to have extra copies on hand...

I don't know the type of tourney, but I can see people not playing past a few rounds if they kept losing.

You don't get eliminated. It is swiss rounds. You play every round. There is no cut for Thursday.

Then they lose out on the extra promos and playing more games. It is for fun ultimately after all and it's practice for a new game. Think of it as an insanely large learn to play event.

Assuming they bring one box per ticket and since they have said their will be a limit of one box per person no matter how many tickets they have I would expect extra boxes to be available. Still confirmation either way would be good. If they are charging $48 in generics it must come with a box however I would think.

I can understand people leaving early, and not getting all the promos. I just don't agree that they should get no promos whatsoever. Not everyone who leaves will do so because of nefarious purposes.

I know it's for fun, but losing every time isn't always fun for people, even if it's in the context of learning to play.

You get promos at the start too. You just get more if you stick around.

Thank you for this. I'm pretty new to L5R (played a disappointing "new player mission" from the rpg a few years back and haven't played since). While it may not (always) be the intention of the commenters, it feels like there's a lot of salt and enmity from some of the "diehard fans" towards people like me who are just interested in getting into a brand new game at what is arguably the best and most exciting time to get in. I was fortunate enough to get a ticket to the Thursday event during the initial wave of event registration, but to be honest, I've been on the fence about giving it up because it can feel like there's a legion of players, both with and without tickets, who would gladly cut me down for daring to play "their" game. Nothing kills enthusiasm for a game than to be made to feel like an outsider before you've even played...or worse, like a lamb headed to the slaughter.

I don't think anyone has a problem with new players. The problem is entirely with the swarm of locusts that bought the ticket for the purpose of selling their box and promo.

It's easy to misinterpret things online. But I want to point out that there is a significant difference between Old5r players having a preference towards other Old5r players and Old5r players having a bias against New5r players. Universal altruism is ridiculous. I am pretty sure it's not even a debate. My namesake on this site is from a Chinese philosopher who believed in universal love and impartiality. But when confronted on the subject had to admit that love should and does flow outward from individuals. It makes sense that that love reaches those close to us first. We honor and respect people who have played the game as long or longer than we have, who have emotional attachment to the game, the stories and the characters. We also welcome newcomers to our community with open arms full of cards (though that's a tradition that will probably end with the LCG model). So I implore all newcomers to take these words seriously. That intense respect that we have towards our Old5r players is being extended to you right now. It's admirable and it includes you. It's part of what makes this community great.

Wow...after reading through this thread I have a newfound appreciation for my tickets. I hit "submit my wishlist" on my phone as soon as it flipped to 10am pst and got in without a hitch. I didn't even realize it had sold out so quickly.

*EDIT* Not sure if it mattered or not, but before this happened, I went through and cleared my wish list, and then added the event to it a 2nd time.

I'm not going, but if I were and I happened to have a ticket, I would have no issue playing in Gencon's L5R events with it and then turning around and selling it all on ebay after. I'd then by my 3 cores from my FLGS when they arrive. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of "locust" do that. Hard to turn down 200-300 dollars for what is essentially 90 retail (Also, there isn't much playing to be done if you are the only one in your area with cards).
