C-Roc and the missing blue line

By dotswarlock, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Ok, let's see if I get this straight:

1) New FAQ (433): C-ROC CRUISER RULESHEET (SPECIAL RULES, THE C-ROC CRUISER SHIP, PAGE 2)

The second, sentence should read:
"The ship token is divided into two halves by the by the firing arc. The front base and shaded area of the ship token denoting its primary firing arc comprise the fore section. The rear base and unshaded area of the ship token comprise the aft section."

2) Huge ship rules; HUGE SHIP SECTIONS

Huge ships count as a single ship consisting of two bases, one ship token, and one or two Ship cards. The ship token is divided into two halves by the blue center line. The front base and the front half of the ship token comprise the fore section. The rear base and the rear half of the ship token comprise the aft section.

3) Huge ship rules: Targeting a Huge Ship

To target a huge ship, choose a section (either fore or aft) of a huge ship that the attacking ship can target normally. Then, measure a line from the exact center of the attacking ship’s base to the exact center of the base for the chosen section of the huge ship. If this line is not obstructed by the blue center line on the huge ship’s ship token, the attacker can declare the chosen section as his target.

So I think it is safe to say that in the case of the C-Roc:

#1 - The firing arc divides the fore and aft section

#2 - Traditionally, the blue line divided fore and aft section. So if we take #1 into account, the the firing arc also acts as the blue line since it divides both sections.

#3 - If we accept #1 and #2, it means that the firing arc acts as the blue line for targeting huge ships. This means that targeting either section is a lot easier if the attacker is positionned towards the front of the C-Roc, but harder if he is positionned towards the rear of the C-Roc.

Does this sound reasonnable? I would rather think that no one just reads #3 and goes: "there's no blue line so I can attack either section as long as I'm in range." If that were the case, the C-Roc would be at a near unimaginable disadvantage.

Note: for those who don't play epic often, having only one of your section exposed to enemy fire and having the reinforce token on it is very, very important. Doubly so when facing another huge ship with range 3-5 thanks to single tubo lasers. The blue line, or should I say the clear division of section and which section can be targeted, is crucial.

Yes, that is what the FAQ change does. FFG forgot to print the blue line on the CROC base plate, and instead of covering the cost of replacing all of them, they said to just use the firing arc to differentiate between the front and rear of the ship. I'm still going to draw a blue line on my base and play with it the way it was intended to be played though. After all, there aren't any real epic tourneys where it would matter.

can the C-ROC's turret ignore its own section rules when firing at someone behind it? Otherwise it wouldnt be able to

Yes, the only turret that can't is the CR-90's PWT

My buddy just used his for the first time tonight, and we realized the blue line was missing. I guessed it was a misprint like some Scum Firespray's were missing rear arcs, and we used the back of its arc for the center-line. Glad to hear we're not crazy.

As for its equipped upgrade turret; it is true, then, the C-ROC can fire in a true-360-degrees? I assumed as much in our battle, given the ship only has one section card and not a fore- and aft- section card like the Tantive and Raider. And the same true-360-degree coverage would apply to the Assault Carrier as well, correct?

Yes, the blue line (or equivalent) in a ship only affects its own attacks when attacking with a turret primary weapon.
