An Angel and her Escorts

By fistfulofforce, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

Painted these over the last week. My skill isn't as amazing as some of you guys but I like them.

*Love* the theme, and the execution isn't half bad, either :) Solid foundation skills are there to my eye, its only a lack of know-how that keeps you back - keep trying, keep plugging, keep learning, and in no-time, you'll be painting more solid than I am at the moment ;)

It looks very... USCG. :D I think she could do with a wash to bring some panel lines back out, but the stripe is very clean and your TIEs are fantastic. Well done!

I think it looks great without a wash but then again I tend to favor that crisp and clean look especially with Imperials.

I agree with SFC Snuffy. Great TIEs, like the crisp white and sharp stripe, needs the panel lines. :)

From my understanding lurking about in this section of the forums you should be able to bring out the panel lines without "dirtying" up the clean white look.

Yeah I airbrushed the arquitens and also like a crisp look. The ties I hand painted. Bought some nuln oil and will see what I can do.

Vykes or someone need to do a straight up wash and panel line tutorial for the rest of us in a step by step format. How do you do the panel lines without taking away from the sharp clean look?

Typically to clean up, I do all the panels AFTER the wash... (Base coat, wash, base coat the top bits)

Lately what I've started instead is just darker basecoat, basecoat on that and cut the wash step. It is also more cohesive. Washes are going to make at least a slight mess on panel edges, even if you are a master of the pin wash.

Vykes does something similar to the above coat process (he has a breakdown which naturally I have stolen and refined to my tastes)

For my white star destroyer I practiced on the underside for a long time before I got the wash to consistency where it would bring out the lines by not dirty the panels themselves. It ended up being about 90% water. I don't use nuln oil so I can't speak to that, but the process worked well. Start with the bottom :)

It would need a lot of dillution, as well as maybe some flow aid/release, or the Drasnighta special - DISH SOAP (caveat, this never works for me and somehow the dish soap manages to pull the ink out and cure it almost instantly)

Cool! Good colors and I really like the phantoms. I imagine they look great on the table.
