With the new guardian card and a couple other things like 3po or Han, you can get Onar some pretty sick defense for a turn or so (all your really need for him to finish his work )

His campaign xp card Get Down really emphasizes what the designers were going for, so yes, I'll echo others and say absolutely it works on himself.
