By CasoPrime, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey guys,

I am about a month in and i working on a list to take to my first store championship. I have one that i tried last night and made some mistakes while but liked it overall. Let me knoe what you think.

Lambda - Cpt Kagi

Flachette Cannon

Enhanced Scopes

Anti Pursuit Laser

Rebel Captive

Bomber - Deathfire

Extra munitions

Cluster mines

Twin Ion Mk. II

Defender - Countess Ryad

PTL

Ion Cannon

Twin Ion Mk. II

Tie/d

So far I have amassed

Both Core Sets

Imperial Aces

Imperial Veterans

Lambda Shuttle

Tie Punisher

Rebel aces

E-Wing

A-wing

T-65

M3-A

Thanks in advance for the help.

Have you thought about trying to fly Colonel jendon instead of Kagi? I personally think that being able to give target locks to my own ships would be slightly better than worrying about getting target locked, with this particular list, feel free to correct me if I am wrong, I am still learning as well.

The TIE punisher is the worst ship in the game, currently. There's no good build for them, sadly. Along that lne of reasoning, I'd swap out Deathrain for Deathfire (TIE Bomber) with the same upgrades.

All the defender pilots are better with X7 instead of TIE/d. In addition, X7 defenders are a lot more forgiving for new players. In addition, you get more points to work with.

With the Lambda, you've fallen into the "more is better" trap. In reality, Kagi is mostly useless in 100 point games (in epic games he can be amazing though).

With this in mind, I'd recommend:

Countess Ryad (36)
TIE Defender (34), Push the Limit (3), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

"Deathfire" (23)
TIE Bomber (17), Extra Munitions (2), Cluster Mines (4), Long Range Scanners (0)

Captain Yorr (29)
Lambda-Class Shuttle (24), Fire-Control System (2), Darth Vader (3)

Academy Pilot (12)

Totalling 100 pts.

By stripping down your three ships, you can fit in a fourth while keeping true to their original roles. Ryad is your arc-dodger and jouster. She's your endgame ace, so if you have a choice, protect her.
Deathfire is your ace killer - Ryad's PS 5 make her vulnerable to a lot of things, and Deathfire can wipe them out.
Yorr is your support ship. You'll find that stress dealers like Asajj are very common, and Yorr is great against those. He also has Vader onboard which is an amazing counter to aces.
Finally, you have your blocker TIE. He is not meant to survive. It is meant to be in the way of your opponent for as long as possible.

Be careful in your matchups too. If you face pilots like Dengar, Asajj, Fenn or Ketsu, you can expect to lose the game (they take experience to beat). In those cases just try to kill as much as you can.

I think Astech has said it all

Thanks for the advice. My LGS is doing events every other week to get ready for the store champ. on July 29th. So hopefully i can get some practice in.

I will like having a fourth ship as well to hopefully get a few points in before he dies.

Is there a better list i could build with what i have?

Lots really, try out connar jax with royal guard, stealth and autothrusters and juke get him range one of your enemy while your shooting with others and its a nice death battle, only fails Ive had with jax is guys who can dish out more than 4 dice for attacks, other than that he is untouchable. Also dont listen to people who say the defender title is useless on a defender, you just need to kit them out properly, tractor beam works well, stealth, shield, or engine upgrade are the nuts, push the limit and relentlessness work well. Up until last week, I had a twin defender list with just 2 defenders with d title that was undefeated. Play what you feel is good and what speaks to you when you command your forces.

How's your piloting, especially with the Lambda? If you're able to fly it through the asteroids without hitting and if you like it, then stick with it and learn it better. If not, I'd suggest dropping it for something smaller. Conner Jax as stated above is a good choice.

Which ever you pick, fly it a while getting used to the squad and the rules. Practice with the squad alone. Throw out some asteroids and fly the squad around the board. Lay out a bunch of focus tokens and fly over then like PAC Man.

Whats funny is i did great with lambda, got it in between asteroids and kept it bumping two of my opponents ships. (It actually did 5 damage across three rounds with the anti pursuit lasers.) The ion cannon on the defender made one of them keep bumping. The bomber is where i need to work. But i also want to be competitive(just how im wired) and i dont know if this list will do it.

If you want to go the cannon route, consider vessery instead of ryad. His ability is crazy scary on /d. Consider if you can borrow the card from a member of your local community.

If not, ryad is still good, even with a Cannon. She can use the 2 k turn more often than her x7 counterpart.

Vessery with tie D, ion cannon and expertise is scary stuff! (Just food for thought really!)

The only issue with your posted list is the lambda being too fat on upgrades. It shines when it is cheap and annoying. That's why palp shuttles were popular before. Darth Vader on an omni cron can really annoy your opponent, since you can ruin any ship's day with a crit, hence pulling fire away from your bombs and defender.

Thinking you could do better with a few changes and you got all for this build:

Yorr, FCS, Tractor Beam, Rebel Captive, Intelligence Agent, Anti Pursuit Laser (33)

Ryad, TieD, PTL, Ion Cannon, Twin Ion Mk. II (41)

Deathfire, Plasma torps, EM, Cluster Mines, Long Range Scanners (26)

Some tweaks.

Ryad

Crack shot, Stealth Device, X7

Yorr,

Mangler Cannon, Rebel Captive, Darth Vader, Anti pursuit laser, Enhanced scopes,

Deathfire

EM, Plasma torp, Cluster mines, Lpng range scanners.

I let my wife fly this list against my rebel list last night and she kicked my ***. The only thing i am not sure about is the EPT on ryad. My first event is tomorrow evening, need se critique. (You can be harsh, i dont get offended easily.) And thanks to everyone who has helped so far.

Took this list to my first "event". 3 rounds of swiss, raffle prizes, just prep for the SC. Went 1-2. First game went to time and a roll off, neither of us lost a ship. Flew against Bobba and Scarlett. Lost the roll. Second game i won 100-0. Flew against HWk, Y and an Arc( Cant remember the pilots.) Last game against 2 arcs and a Y. i misflew the bomber and lost him first round. Ryad was giving the arcs a good chase and the lambda ended out of the mix trying to turn around. Conceded that game when i lost ryad. I think this list can work, i may try to find a phantom to replace the lambda or Replace the lasers, enhanced scope, and mangler for HLC.

Had a blast and Still walked away with some acrylic evade tokens :)

Great to hear you had a good time with it (i dig the new evades)!

I think its a good list, too, for one young to the game. There's some control, some variety, and they're not the easiest ships to maneuver around the mat.... You're setting yourself up for long term success. Get your reps in, try some tweaks and substitutions, and you should be golden for the SC season.

Best of luck. May your clusters reign supreme over Fenn and the gang.

Thanks. I am picking up a phantom and slave 1 tomorrow, i am going to trade the lambda out with whisper with VI, collision detector, ACD, and intelligence agent. Give that a try and see what happens.

Alright. Have my SC list. (If i dont field aggressors/punishers)

Ryad

Crack shot, Stealth device, X7

Yorr

HLC, Rebel Captive, Darth Vader

Deathfire

EM, Plasma Torps, Cluster mines, Long Range Scanners.

99 Pts .

Went 3-0 at the event last night. Hoping i can take the Lambda to at least a top 4 finish!(Not at all asking too much for my first store championship)
