You don't understand, Lion, clan of warriors and strategists needed to lose to effeminate politicians in their own first fiction to show how awesome Hotaru is :>

The game isn't even out yet, and these fictions are already setting the right mood. I hate Hotaru with a passion - mission accomplished.

Im sure we can find you someone better to hate than Hotaru. Yogo Junzo maybe, he was plenty skeevy in Old5r

How about Kachiko getting outsmarted by Hotaru in the next one? :D

considering the collateral damage in the previous version, it would certanly be entertaining to see.

I've seen people say Old5r, and I think it sounds best Ol'5r hehe

Gah... idk how I would hate Junzo. He's Yogo, so I expect him to do some bad stuff to me. I guess that's the thing about Scorpion clan... we like honesty. Hotaru is going to be queen of her own story, steal the Lion clan story, and probably steal the Scorpion story next... That Rule 63 champion is gonna steal everyone's story, and be the "honorable" one for it.

Hotaru upstage Shoju AND Kachiko in their own story? I can't even fathom such an occurance.

Junzo had some serious woman-hating man love for Shoju. (come to think of it, so did Soshi Bantaro the OTHER scorpion shugenja family daimyo)

Shoju was married to the hottest thing in a kimono in all Rokugan, and loving it. So yeah ,Junzo came across as totaly skeev city. Turning urself into an undead monstrosity for revenge will do that

If Hotaru steals everybody's stories, I've got plenty of pews in the Church of Hating the Crane For Meta-Reasons open...

Now that we have the return of Matsu(Good lord, woman take a pill or something)Tsuko im curious as to where her story is going this time 'round.

. Im torn between seeing her 'get over herself', or going bad . thoughts?

Evil Matsu Tsuko is fun. But only if she realizes that she hates Toturi because she loves him, that makes her hate him even more, until she joins Punished Toturi on a life-changing field trip after the Second Day of Thunder.

Wow, I'm the total opposite. I like my villains to be believable.

A psychopathic villain can be believable, the two are not mutually exclusive. It is just a matter of good writing.

Im seeing visions of Tsanuri and Tsuko dueling to the death over who will win Toturi's heart

Ahhhh, love among the Lion. there is nothing quite like it.

Yeah - I guess that part of the story didn't stick to me, but now that you mention it I remember in the Clan Wars books (I loved that series, prolly gonna buy it again soon) Yogo Junzo did hate women, and Kachiko was THE woman to hate. Maybe I didn't care because Junzo was basically turned into a shadowlands character rather than a bad Scorpion character as the story progressed.

I pulled my Clan War novels out recently, as well.

Kuni Yori was coooler than Junzo in the evil shugenja turned monster category anyway.

but i'm biased:D

Kuni Yori was awesome - I'm excited to see how he fairs in the new world. I have a favorite clan (scorpion) and a least favorite (crane). The other clans are all middle-ish for me. I think that is my main issue I have with this fiction is just that Hotaru comes in, fires 2 arrows to kill Arasou and end the siege... like... I feel like they just kinda stole the show.

Not only did she win the battle, and kill Arasou - but she asks Toturi what he's gonna do like she has any right to question him. My god if she does anything like this with Shoju I'm gonna steal copies of her card from other player's collections and burn them...

Unless they change his character significantly, Shoju operaters on a level above Hotaru. While im sure she'll be at least mentioned given the Kachiko thing, I dout she'll come off against them like she did against 'Red Shirt' Arasou.

As for Toturi, I cant wait to see what he does next. As long as it doesnt involve annguished indescision.

I felt one of the biggest weaknesses of the Clan War novels was the way they characterized Junzo and Yori. The writers made them such...poor villains.
We'll start with Junzo. In the Way of the Scorpion, he's a dedicated and talented servant of the Scorpion Clan; he has his flaws, but so does everyone. We all know he was set up to fall to darkness because he has his Yogo Curse, but pre-Clan War Yogo Junzo was clearly a Scorpion Loyalist.
Meanwhile, in the Scorpion's Clan War novel (which was well written, by the way), Shoju outright says that he cannot trust Junzo because he's ambitious and a snake and all that. He has to keep him at arm's length, though we're never given any evidence to support this. The writer knows Junzo's going go bad, but that doesn't mean they have to make him hated by everyone before that.

As for Kuni Yori, he was even worse in the Crab's book. Mind you, I got sick of the Crab's book after a while because of all the flaws in it (they tried way too hard to make the Crab have the moral high ground for siding with the Forces of Hell), but Yori's even more of an open snake and a schemer. I know he was a corrupter and a jerk, but I figured he fell with Kisada, not the one who engineered the who clan's corruption. The Yori in the book is full Shadowlands-level evil right from the start, while I always figured Yori was Creepy Kuni who fell to darkness after his Champion ordered him to find a way to weaponize things you weren't supposed to play with. According to Winter Court: Kyuden Asako's storyline, it wasn't until late in the war that Yori's loyalties changed from the Crab to the Shadowlands.

In the novels, Yori and Junzo were essentially reduced to Evil Minions. of Fu Leng. So I agree.

I skipped 2nd ed so i don't have WC;KA, but IH1 agress with your assesment of Yori. I think the novels differ to make Kisada more "redeemable'.

Even outside the novels, Junzo didn't really have any depth compared to others. He thought women were inferior, has less respect for Shoju because of Kachiko, has a scar by Shoju from an incident involving her, and so on. Junzo is really portrayed as being just an ****** compared to everyone else so I don't necessarily fault Sullivan when the character was set up like that years earlier.

I'm not sure I really care about Junzo, since I'm more interested and concerned in the core Scorpion players like Aramoro, Shoju, Kachiko, and so on.

And like... will we even have a Dairyu? considering the father is now... well... <_<

Clearly, his father's going to be Toturi. Or Aramoro. Possibly Yojiro.

I'd gladly vote NO on Dairu.

I don't think they are rehashing the old Story so I'm excited about the Scorpion fic.

Whatever will those silly Scorpions get up to without a coup?

Wow, if true then Kachiko would be even Sluttier than the Empress in HoR

I'm just listing the people Kachiko would rather bed than her husband...which is probably most of Rokugan, considering what he looks like (seriously, that's pretty much Shoju was described like, give or take, in most fictions). Not that she's with ALL of them...just that when that's your competition, you've got a lot of contenders.

How about the late Doji Satsume? Either...

A. Shoju ordered Kachiko to sleep with Satsume so he could have an heir, then ordered Satsume killed.

B. Kachiko was infatuated with Satsume, Shoju found out and killed Satsume out of jealousy. When the child was born Shoju decided to keep him.

C. As B. but Kachiko ordered him killed, then presented the child as Shoju's.

I'm liking this...ugh, this also means Hotaru's got two reasons to call Kachiko "Mommy" now.
