I'd like to see additional obstacles with different rules

What if some of those clouds were explosive and firing through them resulted in an explosion that detroys the cloud and does 1 damage to ships at Range 1???

Volatile Clouds - Counts as a Cloud, When attacking through this cloud roll a red dice and all ships within range 1 of it are assigned a hit or crit or a stress on a focus roll, then remove this token

You mean like this one?

I would also like to see a Purgill herd. Not sure, how to do it, but they would be fun.

Are they the "space whales" we saw in rebels? If thats the case it would be an excellent idea.

What about beer debris? When overlapping...

Use a long template like the senator's shuttle. Choose as many as you want. Place at one table edge. Ships treat them as an obstacle.

At the beginning of each turn, roll 1 green per pergill. Blank = no move. Focus = move forward one. Evade = move forward 2.

Watch chaos unfold as they haphazardly migrate thru your battle.

If you want 3D get Whales in a Toob from any Michael's store. Glue your favorites of these on space small ship bases instead:

I want a pond with three aligators in it...

If your ship finish's a maneuver on an alligator while it's mouth is closed...no effect.

If you land on an alligator with it's mouth open ,or miss an alligator and land in the pond...

Ship is destroyed.

Mines - we've already got a selection that could be used/modified for use.

Or how about Defense Platforms? Little automated weapons platforms that shoot at anyone who comes near them.

I would love some "living" terrain like the purgill, Space slug, or the Neebray Mantas from Clone Wars. I'm not sure how they would work, but I think they would be fun, especially in mission play.

I also want the tops of buildings for on Courascant, and clouds for on Bespin, and rock spires for on Geonosis. I want this along side my little bases of infantry, turrets, and walkers in a ground assault game mode, of course.

To be fair, I don't think anyone would call an X-Wing asteroid field "dangerous," since it's pretty spacious, the asteroids are stationary, and even the frailest of fighters can fly directly into them six times on average before the ship is destroyed... hehe

You've obviously never seen me fly. Or roll dice.

True, but a field with no terrain makes for a boring game.

No terrain all the time and I would agree with you, but to some players, 6 obstacles every time gets just as boring. Having a random terrain element in a tournament format would mean you need to have a list that can adapt to its surroundings as well as the enemy squad.

Even something as simple as each player rolls 4 attack dice. For each hit you may place 1 asteroid, for each focus or Crit you place 1 debris field, for each blank, you play nothing. On average each player would place 3 obstacles. But some games there could be 8, and some could have 1 or 2. Some times there might be no debris fields, other times there are 5. Some games you get to place 4 while your opponent only plays 1. That would be interesting to me.

Nicely done. I'm having Atari 2600 flashbacks now.

The only problem would be those people that don't have the expansions that come with debris (apparently not everyone buys everything - can you believe it!?)

Combine this idea with one of the others - on a Crit, it's a mine or defence satellite (player's choice)

Sure, but in Attack Wing most everything has shields (though in Attack Wing balance has never been a concern). In X-Wing, Imperials would love this because it basically turns 75% of the board into an area where Rebel and Scum ships lose half of their HP, while TIEs and Interceptors and TIE Bombers are all unaffected...

Doesn't sound very balanced.

You could balance it out by introducing some obstacle that doesn't effect shielded ships. Then the Imp player would pick the 3 that benefit him, and the non-imp players would pick the 3 that benefit them.

I'd like to see asteroids that moved - have them with similar overall design to the Senators Shuttle (from the core set) with a rockier outline. They execute a 1-straight maneuver in the direction of a little arrow on them. If they go off a map edge, they instead turn around and come back the other way.

Radiation leaking ships - at start of combat, all ships in R1 get a stress token. Stacks with multiples.

Dampening field - R2xR2 area (5 inches) in which any ship that reveals a maneuver in that area decreases the speed of their maneuver to 1.

Capital Ship Fire (replaces all three obstacles competitively) - A streak down the center of the map (between both players) where, if you overlap one of the laser bolts you are dealt 1 critical damage card.

A "squad" upgrade G ravity Well Projectors that enable you to bring 9 obstacles of your choice instead of 3, and place them wherever you wish. Probably 3 points, and only usable by Imperials or Rebels. Take that scum.

Neutral ships would also be pretty awesome. I'd like to see the HotAC AI operate on a squadron of 4x Z-95s in a competitive game (or a Decimator...).

I'm pretty happy what we have now, it is very simple system and I would hate if the asteroid rules would get more complex. I have always appreciate when rules won't be getting too complicated or require lot of time to use.

Maybe there could be new pieces coming out like ship wreck's, something bit bigger than we have now, but with same rules as debris is at the moment. But honestly I think that we won't be needing anything really.

I wish FFG would fill the void left by Space Rocks and make 3D wreckage debris for use in X-wing.

I always wanted good get "3d" asteroids, but never really knew how you so me through them..

There's an old thread by @Rodent Mastermind with a lot of ideas but the links are broken.

Moving obstacles, another good idea!
