Biggs vs torp/missiles

By Thormind, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I've seen this in another thread and i want to know if its true. If it is, almost all players i know have been doing it wrong:

"Biggs can be ignored by alpha strike lists because of the timing chart. Torpedoes and missiles can only be fired at the target you have locked. So the alpha strike player simply doesn't target lock Biggs."

If you can make a regular attack vs Biggs would you be able to target another ship you have a TL on to fire an ordnance?

Yes. If you select a weapon which can't target biggs (either due to a range or arc limitation, or due to an attack: Target Lock requirement), you don't have to target biggs, even if you could target him with your primary.

Bear in mind that this has changed fairly recently. Up until the timing chart came out, you had to shoot Biggs if any of your weapons could target him. Now, you declare your weapon and then see if that weapon can hit him; if not, you get to shoot the target you wanted.

Yep, this was changed in FAQ 4.2.2 Effective 2016/10/24

Quote

Biggs Darklighter's ability does not trigger if the attacker chose a weapon that cannot target Biggs Darklighter.
See "Timing Chart for Performing an Attack" on page 7.

Before that FAQ release Biggs would force an opponent to choose a weapon that could target him

If the attacker has more than one weapon available, it must use a weapon that can target Biggs Darklighter, if possible, instead of any other ship at Range 1 of Biggs Darklighter.

Excellent citation @joeshmoe554 :)
