Very nice. It should be particularly effective against Lion swarm, and it's potentially strong against any deck trying to keep its Honor up by not drawing many conflict cards.

Edited by Togashi Gao ShanThe ability has the potential to be very good, but it's also very variable. I suppose its existence encourages sending single attackers to scout provinces.
Except against Unicorn, with the province that breaks to force discarding an attacking character.
You'd still scout against Unicorn. You don't want to run into that province unexpectedly with only high value guys with fate on them in your army. And if a cheap scout manages to crack the province and take the bullet for the team so much the better.
I would only sacrifice the province if a) it was going to be broken anyway or b) doing so would force the attacker to discard a valuable character. I wouldn't sacrifice it just because it's no longer a surprise.
I love the change from the ccg to the lcg about provinces.
It might slow the game down a bit which can be both a good/bad thing. Scouting province just become a real thing, it adds another layer of tactical decision during conflicts.
hoping for ninja/scout cards that flips/blanks provinces as an action ![]()
and also, strongholds can have a facedown province under them right?

They must actually. I feel the province choice will be an important part of deck-building, but placing them will also matter a lot.

Sweet, so used to playing with one province left as Scorpion and this definitely is a great card to have under the last attack if the same gameplay applies in the LCG.
Last province, usually is everyone attacking you, flipping this essential makes the opponent trickless. I hope ![]()
As the opponent chooses the cards he discards, I see this valuable against swarm, but not so much in other circumstances. Depending on the initial meta and the number of good choices available for the province slots, this card could be popular at the beginning, but probably the slot can be enhanced quite soon, when other provinces with better effects use the gap, and when other tools against swarm become available.
The art is fine, by the way.

I suppose I'm not seeing what your objection is to using an expendable scout to figure out which one it is so you can avoid sending something valuable to it.

I was just saying that the expendable scout wouldn't take one for the team unless he was seriously threatening. He would still discover the trap.
Does it bother anyone else that a card type "Province" can include things which conceptually are not Provinces?

Like "Shameful Display"? Unless it's the city of gratuitous public makeouts...
Night Raid is my favorite place to go and hang out after a good time in Shameful Display. I just hope it doesn't mean everyone I know and love is going to die one by one.

This Province just elevated the roles of attavkers from Home (shugenjas, etc) and personalities like the Wandering Ronin that could be buffed up and used as a Province blitzer... imo.

Yes, it does.
But I can get around it and work with it, so to speak.
EDIT: Something is still nibbling at me as to why FFG didn't simply design actual "locations" for Provinces, if we approach the generally accepted definition of a 'province.' Then again, I'm sure somethings will change down the road as the game matures.

Or like Defend the Wall or Elemental Fury, or The Art of Peace? Why no outrage over all these when they were spoiled?
I don't remember FFG saying that each province card would be an actual place. Only that the province cards would modify the province it is attached to in some way. It would appear that some will be descriptions of events that could change the dynamics of a conflict as opposed to being actual places.
I have zero problems with it. Events were a mainstay of Old5R. This seems to be an attempt to capture that same feel without consuming so much design space.

I should have mentioned, besides a vague general feeling of "Hey, that's not a place..." I honestly don't care, doesn't bother me. I think there's enough misplaced rage going on as it is. We don't need more.
More than anything, I find it odd that a Shameful Display would occur each time a conflict occurs in that province, like there's something in the water there or whatnot.

Remember, one of these goes under your stronghold which is already a place. Having a place that is actually two places bothers me much more than having a province that isn't a place.
I think I just wish they had called "Province" cards something else.

I got nothing for Defend the Wall, but I always pictured Elemental Fury as fighting the battle in a storm of elements. And as for art of peace its more of attacking a treaty you had. Hence you broke the peace treaty so you are dishonorable and they are honorable for trying to keep it.

Province - large area of land.
Stronghold - castle, palace, fortress.
Having a Stronghold in a Province makes sense.

Nope

Avoid those threads like the plague. They are more of a trap than this Province.
