Your Favourite Descent Quest?

By TeufelHund666, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

So what's everyone's favourite Descent quest, either from the main game or any of the expansions?

I'm rather partial to the first quest in WOD, where the dungeon is rapidly collapsing behind the players! Also the Spiral of Death was good fun (as an overlord), also from WOD.

I like the look of the Cousin Durnag from TOI but haven't had a chance to play it yet.

I like this discussion...can't believe there's not more replies or threads on it.

Anyways, I do not want to give a knee-jerk reply, so I am going to give this some thought.

I'll try to respond later with some reasoning behind my choices! happy.gif

I can't really give an honest repsonse since I haven't played them all yet. But I do like the one where all the heroes are trapped in a temple and monsters just keep pouring in. It's a tough one.

The collapsing mine (or whatever it is called) that the OP also mentions, is definitely one of my favorites. Though I haven't tried every dungeon yet, either. In fact, I think the dungeons in WoD all are pretty good and funny, though tough as hell! I like many of the concepts in AoD too, but I don't feel that all of the quests succeed in using the Prolonged Actions. I feel as an overlord, it is a little difficult to figure out, when and where and how to exactly convey the use of the PA.

Well, I couldn't pick just one :)

So, I narrowed it down to 5. They are all for different reason, briefly explained after it.

For reference, I estimated that I have played about 15 different maps, not including any RtL stuff...

In no particular order.......

Brothers Durnog (first one ever played, sentimental ;) )

The Spiral Of Death (I thought it was tough, for some reason...)

Buried Alive (great use of special rules for a quest)

The Aerie Of Death (excellent and a tad shorted than most quests Bonus!)

Hold The Line (excellent way to make it a melee, instead of an exploration game)

I think this simple array of 5 really goes a long way to showing someone the vast variety and opportunities in map-making Descent offers...

Ok..so...I haven't actually played it yet, but I really find the last quest of WoD to be fascinating. I mean, you start out with 4 relics in a room with 2 gold treasures? I mean, one of the common complaints from heroes is dealing with starting equipment and for the OL is how long it takes to build threat. Both are addressed here and you basically just start out with a final battle, but also keeping heroes separate because of the traps. I'm planning to try it this weekend, and really looking forward to it.

Other than that, I really enjoyed the final quest of the original game. We played it down to the final boss and we were at a point where he kept undying and then he wouldn't quite have enough to kill us with touch of death, and didn't get the surges or rolled a miss and it went for 5 rounds with two conquest hanging in the balance. It was pretty intense and very fun.

People have spoken well of "Hold the Line" I just got AoD and thought that one looked really cool--glad to see it seems to be cool not just in theory.

Hold the Line would have to be one of my favourites.

That said, I also enjoy the mini-dungeons from RtL quite a bit - they have nice variation and special rules that keep the adventurers on their toes.

The Aerie of Death.

I even built a custom board for this one (image 387977 on BGG).

While this quest doesn't have any really interesting twists, it plays pretty fast.

I really enjoyed The Thing in the Pit from AoD. I liked the idea that there was a secret room in it and that the location of the passage way was randomly chosen. Also the saving the prisoner aspect made gave the quest a little extra flavor.

Spoiled Brat; From the Original Rule set.

It's Perfectly balanced so that the party learns to stay alive together, or die together (a very usefull skill in any quest).<<< all oppinion here

As the OL it's fun to steal the princess back when you kill the Hero carring it and double fun getting something besides just conquest for landing the killing blow on the strong guy.<<<true fact!
