Scum vs Scum

By Herr Style, in X-Wing Battle Reports

So, the other day, me and my buddy Jeff decided to have a bash to see who had the Top Scum side. This was on the back end of my Imperials receiving numerous beatings (and one dubious narrow win due to time) from Jeff’s Scum which normally had Kavil with TLT as standard. This time the opposing forces were as follows; -

Jeff (99 points)

Kavil

TLT

Unhinged Astromech

Trick Shot (Urgh! 5 dice through asteroids over the back decks!)

Zuckass

A Score to settle (placed on Ketsu)

FCS

Dengar

Mist Hunter

Tractor Beam

EMP device

TalonBane Cobra

Marksmanship

Inertial Dampers

Me (100 points)

Ketsu Onyo

Adaptability (Chosen to put Ketsu and 4-LOM at PS8, came in handy later)

Gyroscopic Targeting

K4 Sec droid

Shadow Caster

Rigged Cargo chute

BMST

4-LOM

VI

Collision Detector

Experimental Interface

Bossk

Mist Hunter

Tractor Beam

Cloaking device

Binayre Pirate

Concussion Missiles

Guidance Chips

Asteroids placed by me (prior to Jeff arriving at my house) in the middle. My board is a 4x3, and I do mean eventually to mark off 6” as card space on each end to make it 3x3. Promise!

Setup

I set up first in my right corner from L-R 4-LOM, Ketsu and BP. Jeff set up from his middle to roughly range 2 from his right with from his L-R Zuckuss, Kavil and Talonbane on the outside, facing forward.

Turn 1

I moved off with each of my ships taking a 4 or 5 move, with ketsu pushing our ahead. Jeff did small 1-2 moves, with Zuckuss heading towards the asteroid field, and Kavil and Talonbane looking to skirt the outside.

Turn 2

More of the same as for previously!

Turn 3

I then banked my three ships left towards the asteroid field, bumping my BP into Ketsu before he moved, so it left him at the back for future moves. Jeff did more small moves with his ships still following the same lines as before.

Turn 4

I pushed my BP past Ketsu, and Jeff moved Zuckuss into the asteroid field with a left bank. Kavil and TB still skirting the Asteroid field. Ketsu and 4-Lom then moved into the asteroid field, with Ketsu just (I think) picking up a Target Lock on Zuckuss with a green 3 move). I took a shield off Zuckass at range 3 and he missed with his shot. BP moved hoping not to land where I wanted Ketsu and 4-LOM to go, also hoping to either get Zuckuss or block him. More smaller moves from my guys to try to line up some good shots for next turn.

Turn 5

More moving but this was small moves by my guys in the asteroid field, and Zuckuss moved past my guys, and landed on a rock! No damage. Kavil and TB rolled round the asteroids, but TB wasn’t in arc of anyone. Ketsu was still at R3 of TB, so I shot and took a shield off of him. 4-LOM activated his cloak as an action with experimental interface after taking a focus. Kavil actually shot at 4-LOM and he lost 2 shield (even cloaked! 5 dice!). I mistakenly shot at TB with 4-Lom and gave him a damage card, but took it back when I realized my mistake.

Turn 6

4-LOM decloaked, and this surprised Jeff I think. I forgot to roll to see if my illicit cloak was still working but remembered later on in the game and passed. BP moved out of the way of my guys again now facing towards my board edge, and probably out of arc of anyone. Zuckuss got off the rock but didn’t get any more damage. He was out of it for about two turns now. Kavil banked right to try to increase the range between him and my ships. I then moved, thankfully both were on PS 8, so I moved Ketsu first, then 4-LOM. TB moved and bumped Ketsu! Joy of joys! I then at the start of combat tractored TB onto a rock at range 1, but no damage caused. No firing for Talon Bane due to having a break on an asteroid! Ketsu then caused 1 damage on TB. Kavil hit 4-LOM with “only” 4 dice (x 2) and naturally 4-LOM lost his last two shields.

Turn 7

I think here, I turned BP right to get round an asteroid, to try to set up a missile shot, and got a Target Lock on Kavil. Zuckuss did I think a 3K turn to get him facing the right way. I moved 4-LOM to try to get Kavil, and ended up out of arc at Range 1 of Kavil! Then Ketsu moved and I rotated my mobile arc over the right side and Kavil was at range 1-2 (Can’t remember). Ketsu fired and hit Kavil taking his shields and causing a crit I think (all hard turns are red). I then added a Tractor beam token with her Shadow Caster ability. 4-LOM did more damage to Kavil, so he was seriously hurting! Kavil returned fire on the Pirate, where he then took 2 shields for his troubles. The Binayre Pirate then popped up and fired it’s missiles at Kavil and shot him down! My Nemesis was gone (did I tell you before that I hate Kavil?)

Turn 8

I did a K turn on BP to have him heading back towards Zuckuss and TB now in the centre right of the asteroid field (as I was looking at it), and Zuckuss started to head down towards the action. I moved 4-LOM away from the action towards my bottom left edge, and sent Ketsu on a hard left 3 facing to my right and afterwards rotated my mobile arc to the left facing Jeff’s board edge. Jeff moved Zuckuss on a left bank so as not stress. TB was moved facing to my right hand side of the board behind an asteroid.

Turn 9

BP went straight ahead to clear stress, Zuckuss moved slowly down to support where I thought TB would go. Ketsu went in support of the BP and rotated as an action it’s mobile arc forward. 4-LOM followed up behind and to the left. Talon Bane popped round an asteroid at Range 1 of the Pirate and activated Marksman as an action, oh well, good bye! Talon Bane fired first (PS9) and rolled 5 blanks! 5 blanks! Marksman didn’t kick in, and then either Ketsu shot down Talon Bane at Range 3, or caused some more hurt and the Pirate finished him off.

Turn 10

The Pirate banked left, now facing the center of the asteroid field, but Zuckuss came in on its flank. Ketsu was then in on the left flank of Zuckuss. 4-LOM was still trying to get close, but stay away from Zuckuss. Ketsu caused about 3 hits on Zuckuss, giving him some damage cards. Zuckuss shot down the Pirate in return.

Turn 11

So, now down to 2 ships, I didn’t want to get 4-LOM involved and potentially lose him, so I did a slow 1 or 2 advance, Zuckuss did a hard left facing towards where Jeff thought that Ketsu would be, but she did a big 5K over an asteroid and picked up her first damage of the game. She then shot and caused another hit on Zuckuss. Next move had Zuckuss looking for 4-Lom by doing a right bank towards my edge, and 4-LOM again took it easy. Ketsu did another big move, this time straight 4 over the same asteroid, and another damage, but Zuckuss in range 2. Take a Tractor beam! Get into range 1! Take 4 dice, roll zero green dice and good night!

Conclusion

Hope you enjoyed that, and if there was anything we did wrong or could improve on let me know. I probably missed some of the action out due to writing this up about 5 days later but the most of its in there.

For me, Bossk activated once on my G1-A, and it didn’t do any good anyway, so when I can I will replace him with Outlaw Tech. however, due to the way Jeff and I play, I have to stick with my winning list until I am defeated! I also didn’t pass a stress once with 4-LOM, but hey, maybe next time. Ketsu I think worked great, but I need to remember K-4 Security droid! I forgot 2 or 3 potential Target Locks. The pirate was superb, and concussion missiles and Guidance chips worked well. I did consider an EMP device and Vectored thrusters but went with what I had.

Jeff and I thought that Marksman for Talon Bane was not a good choice, and I thought maybe Predator and possibly Vectored Thrusters to give him some sort of maneuvering ability after moving? Kavil is just Kavil and I hate him. Zuckuss should have lost his EMP for TB to get Vectored Thrusters. He could have used it at one point but forgot! It would have seriously dented my plans and could have been a game changer.
