RAIV is great, I've used it just on the computer and a RNG so I didn't have to print everything out. Plays very similar to the Descent app.
Any news for a Descent style app?
Do people generally prefer RAIV to RAEV?
I know raiv is quicker and simpler but get that raev cover more of the games mechanics with AI so I kind of assumed RAEV wound be the more popular??
I will say this much for the future of this app. The IA app treads on both Hasbro's (board game rights) and EA's (digital rights) turf. So working out a 4 party deal that allows this app to come to market and an expansion of a non-Hasbro board game is very very tricky and ultimately, without strong leadership from Disney/Lucas Film, won't be happening. Sadly the nice people over at Lucas Film are rather busy with two very complicated and expensive movies and this app is simply not on the radar.
Also, the rumor that the year will end some time in December is still true.

Doubtful that there's any issues, it's not an electronic game, so EA wouldn't really care. And they've already ironed something out with Hasbro.

Exactly. I doubt that EA had any say in the Star Wars Dice app, for example. Just because it's digital doesn't mean that it's a video game, and I think you'd have a hard time getting something like this classified as a standalone game.
@neosmagus Lawyers love to get paid so whatever was worked out with Hasbro would be rather narrow so when things change, and they always do, the lawyers get paid again. Remember FFG isn't even allowed to sell IA out of their own store. It's that kind of petty. And yeah, EA cares, they always do. Their share holders demand that they care. They do the typical big corp thinking. They are going to want their piece. The deal for this app is messy. We all want things to go smoothly but that doesn't mean it will be so.
Surely, you'd get all the legal matters sorted out BEFORE you began development on a companion app for a game with interesting pre-existing licensing arrangements?

And especially before you announce the product to the public.
The App has not been announced as a product yet.
(Edit: but like Julia says below, it has been confirmed multiple times to be still in development.)
Edited by a1bertThey talked about it at GenCon last year and promptly went on locked down and never talked about it since. Often prototypes are made before licensing can be figured out so all parties involved can see what the hell it is they are suppose to be licensing.

FFG confirmed they are working on the app on their Twitter page a few weeks ago. It was also confirmed by the company at the SW Celebration day ( link ), so there's nothing to be worried about. If I were into marketing, I'd release the app 2 days before GenCon, so that I'd grant my company to go sold out on Imperial Assault on day 1 of the Con
I have to imagine an app would mean some kind of smaller starter set for the game. Something app enabled could ditch a whole lot of the card and book content and be available for mass market retailers.

I dunno. I could see an expansion that is specifically designed to take advantage of certain app features, but it would be much simpler from FFG'S perspective to just lower the price of the Core Box if this was an issue. I don't think the price and size of the Core is what's stopping the game from selling more. Based on what little we know, FFG must be at least okay with how much it's selling now.
I just think any game that requires an app to play it isn't really mass market. It's not something you're going to find on shelves in Walmart.
I imagine an app enabled game like this would do well at mass market. Everyone has smart phones, using them as part of a game is only weird and strange to hard core cardboard nerds.
Caution - complete hearsay found below.
Came across this thread on BGG about the state of Descent 2ed - https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1805223/fate-descent-2nd-edition/page/1
While not strictly IA related - there's an interesting paragraph about the IA app (around paragraph 6).
As the warning says, this is all hearsay, so take form it what you will.

In the end, essentially the post is just repeating everything we have known from the beginning. Nothing new, good story.
There are still days left in this year.

Bingo, bango, bongo. Just like with Road to Legend and MoM 2nd, it will come out of left field. We will be in the dark until then.
I don't think it is GenCon though, we have a big box this summer to tie us over, I think it is slated for Christmas, as discussed for various reasons already in this thread as we go around in circles, but mainly because of the shift in product release schedule moving the boxes away from the holidays to create room.

Its possible that the big box will release on Christmas and instead we'll get the app sooner with a small box expansion to support it, just as suddenly as we got the Mansions of Madness second edition.
I just don't see them doing a big box in December if we're getting one in September.. I am expecting a small wave in between.

No, I'm saying we might get Heart of the Empire for Christmas... there's been nothing to suggest we'll get it for September, other than guessing, has there?

Ahh I see what you're saying, no there hasn't been any hint when it will release. Although that would for surely be a record length for announcement until release, and with nothing in between now and then that would be one figure wave and 1 big box for all of 2017, as opposed to 2 figure waves, 1 small box and 1 big box in 2016.

Well, only that HotE and the associated packs have been indicated to be Q3 releases. Other than that, no.
HotE article said:Heart of the Empire is scheduled to arrive at retailers in the third quarter of 2017!

Man I'm having a day, must have something to do with my newborn baby and sleep deprivation
My only concearn for the app is the 2 other games that use apps from FFG, Decsent 2nd edition and Mansions of Madness second edition, both came out with a new edition so the app can be used. I hope they don't put out another edition on IA for the app.
Descent did not make a new edition for the app. The. App came well after 2nd.
