New players will just have to win tournaments to get maneuvering templates and dice now lol

Sounds like a WizKids game.

While flying nothing but ships with [stop] maneuvers.

And 0 agility and Accuracy Corrector, as they have no dice either.

2 Lothal Rebels with AC and TLT, bumping each other all game?

I'd say there's approximately a 0% chance that they're going to do away with Luke and R2D2.

IF it's legit that the original core set is no longer being produced, that pretty much means:

a. The entire game has run it's course and can see the clearing at the end of the path

b. The long-fabled 2.0 is on it's way

c. The original core set is being updated with the new damage deck and rule books, ala TFA Core

My hope is b, in a compatible format with some sort of upgrade path, but it's entirely possible that it's just an update (or a misunderstanding about the availability).

I will have to buy mine through a 3rd party Vendor. I am used to this.

Maybe we get Rogue One Core Set...

They made one, in two parts. They called one the "U Wing expansion", and the other one was the "TIE Striker expansion". Not sure how much more you could do with this game in regards to Rogue One...

Maybe a few more X Wing pilots - Blue Squadron I think it was.

Was this was just a hasty email reply from one store owner or employee to a customer? If so, I don't think that's sufficient evidence to conclude that the original core set is discontinued.

Well, since it was clearly stated that it's a response from a distributor to a store owner , I think it's got a lot more weight than that. The curious part is that for the distributor, both the Original Core and TFA Core are currently sold out, yet they clearly expect the TFA to eventually get the usual reprinting while they have some reason to suspect that they won't be getting anymore Original Core.

Perhaps this is why they spammed that new weird R2-D2 alt art as a bonus to the Store Champ kits?

Oh man! 3rd core set incoming!

Or even version 2.0 coming out. I know, it's a long-shot, but consider:

  • No X-wing fix.
  • StarViper and Kihraxz fix.
  • This news (if read in a certain way).

So what if FFG is:

  • Emptying shelves of Kihraxz, StarVipers, and TFA sets, which have been languishing, Autothrusters notwithstanding.
  • Waiting to offer a complete re-design of the X-wing ...
  • ... along with redesigns of all ships ...

... in X-Wing 2.0.

Again, not likely (given the total silence), but interesting. I started considering this when the Scyk, StarViper, and Kihraxz were all fixed before the freakin' X-wing. That's just ... weird.

That isn't the way they operate, though. They wouldn't be making new product if a new edition was on the horizon.

Agreed with the options as laid out - however, a) would depress the poop out of me, but I think it's hugely unlikely with the success of XWing, b) possibly so! and c) I think this is more likely

All the while they have discontinued stock, that is...

I think a Last Jedi set is more likely at this point, but fundamentally agree.

Agreed, but please, keep your logic and reason to yourself!

Personally I see a last Jedi core set on its way and they think keeping 3 core sets going is too much.

will there be a Luke and R2 D2 in the last Jedi core set, since they will be in the film I think it very likely. Will they be in the exact same format, I don't know, maybe maybe not.

It says it's being reprinted in the upcoming link. They might make some minor changes to it when they reprint it.

I would like Last Jedi as new Core Set, could bring new upgrades, damage deck and new version of rules. Maybe there could be critical hits that would break maybe upgrades, ordanance etc.

Plenty, really - the TIE Reaper, Krennic's Shuttle, the Imperial Cargo Shuttle, Partisan X-Wing and a Scarif Veterans pack with the missing X and Y-Wing pilots for the Rebels for a start. Oh, and a Scarif Shield Gate gaming mat.

And K2-S0 crew. It's a crime that the U-Wing never came with a K2-S0 pilot or crew card.

I was thinking about an Imperial Cargo Shuttle expansion the other day, and was thinking they could make it a dual faction release. K2-SO rebel pilot and a Bodhi Rook Imperial pilot, plus a couple generics for each side. My biggest hang up was how to differentiate it from other crew carriers.

Would also give an opportunity for K2-SO and Chirrut Imwe crew cards.

I am currently at the FLGS where I work, and this is news to me. SWX01 is out of stock, but a reprint is expected. This is much ado about nothing.

But surely... the sky is falling?

The old damage deck was the truly answer against ordanance/turrets/bombs.... :)

It is not falling, and please, don't call me Shirley! :P

I run a FLGS and we've just heard that the original core set is unlikely to come back into stock. Are there any plans to place the cards that are only available in that set into any other packs? If not, then this will mean that any new players will be unable to get these cards unless they can pick them up second hand.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

If I may put on my tinfoil hat for a second: The schedule I saw of Gencon called all X-Wing events x wing "1.0" so I expect an announcement at Gencon for X wing 2.0 which would invalidate the need for an original core set.

Where did you saw this? Is kind of normal to put which rules edition a tournament is going to use when there are more than one edition, might sound redundant but if there is only 1 edition it can still appear. Though the use of "1.0" instead of "1st edition" it surprises me a lot.
