X-Wing core set discontinued?

Where did you saw this? Is kind of normal to put which rules edition a tournament is going to use when there are more than one edition, might sound redundant but if there is only 1 edition it can still appear. Though the use of "1.0" instead of "1st edition" it surprises me a lot.

It's actually listed as X-Wing 1st Ed. in the events guide on the Gencon website. It appears they reference the game edition in the events (presumably for games like 40K or WHFB where there are multiple rules editions). Whether it implies there is a second edition on the way or the fact that it is simply the first (and only) edition of rules being used would be conjecture.

IIRC; there was a small storm in a teacup when a UK distributor listed the X-Wing Q2 2017 OP kits as for X-Wing 2nd Edition. It turned out to be a mistake...

If I may put on my tinfoil hat for a second: The schedule I saw of Gencon called all X-Wing events x wing "1.0" so I expect an announcement at Gencon for X wing 2.0 which would invalidate the need for an original core set.

It SOUNDS intriguing, but everything I'm seeing in the GenCon 2017 Events Thinger makes it look like rules edition is a part of a form that gets filled out when the event is added.

eta: That being said, I'm unfamiliar with their site, so if there's a better way to find something that looks more promising, please let us know.

That's correct. "Edition" is a standard part of event submission, so it's usually/always filled out even if there have been no edition changes. So it's not really additional grist for the speculation mill.

That said, I really would not be shocked if some form of announcement were made at GenCon. Maybe nothing formal, but just, "There is a 2.0 on the horizon." I don't know what the marketing implications of that would be ... I can see positives and negatives, but what I know about marketing could fit in a thimble, with room left over for a finger.

True, but there's a lot of options that could have gone there. For example Star Trek Attack Wing is using "2016 Edition", magic the gathering is using the format "Magic the Gathering: Legacy ed" for example.

So while it's certainly possible this is a default setting, it is also possible that the game is changing! The sky could very well be falling!

Plenty, really - the TIE Reaper, Krennic's Shuttle, the Imperial Cargo Shuttle, Partisan X-Wing and a Scarif Veterans pack with the missing X and Y-Wing pilots for the Rebels for a start. Oh, and a Scarif Shield Gate gaming mat.

And K2-S0 crew. It's a crime that the U-Wing never came with a K2-S0 pilot or crew card.

A shield gate map would be amazing. I have a few of the others on my amazon list for the wife to pick if she can't come up with a better birthday present or whatever but a shield gate map would be a day one purchase for me. Also, that's insane that K2-S0 isnt in the u-wing pack. Like....what are they saving him for??

If they included the most recent rules and TFA damage deck in a reprint of the classic core set, would that A) still be a "reprint"? B) flip people the hell out? That kind of seems like something they ought to be considering at this point.

Unless they really are going to discontinue it and come out with a Core Set 2.0 (that way everyone in the 2.0 debate "wins") or a Rebels or TLJ core set.

the original Core set has been on the waiting for reprint list since February. My guess would be that a Biggs change is coming and that new versions would have errataed cards, updated rules, and newer damage deck. but that it won't be a version 2.0. guess we'll see.

That's stretching of an unbelievable level. Just because they use 1.0 doesn't mean anything more than Attack Wing using the 2016 edition. FFG is not going to do a new edition until the current one stops making them a crapton of money.

And the HWK has been on the waitning for reprint list since the first of November. I wouldn't put too much into the core being there since Feb.

I dunno. Can't get new players into the game with starter kits on the shelf. I would think those would be a priority but what do I know...

Yay me too! Already excited for it too! :)

Me three... can't wait... :)

Ok, just heard that the original information I received was a mistake, the original core set will be back later this year, apparently it's being printed at the moment and there have been a few production issues hence the delay. So all good :)

Well, you have certainly caused quite a kerfuffle in the meantime. Much ado over nothing, in the end. But it was fun to speculate! :)

That's denial of an unbelievable level. You have no real reason to believe that there wasn't a purpose behind which words were chosen. FFG may do a new edition because the current one is still making money and sees this as a way to sustain the market.

If the OP was much ado about nothing, then this particular line of thought is even LESS ado about less than nothing. All the GenCon events have a line for "edition", so they have to put in something. It doesn't mean anything. I have gone to over a dozen GenCons, and run events in more than a few, so I know the process.

Furthermore, those events aren't run by FFG, they're run by whoever wants to run them. If you look at the events, you can see who is running them. They might get prize support from FFG but nothing more. So these people run independently of FFG, and don't know any super secret future plans any more than what's already on here. In fact, I'd wager that many of those people ARE on here.

So, sorry to spoil your party, but there really and truly is nothing to see here. These are not the droids you're looking for.

Uhhhhhh I'm going to disagree that ffg isn't putting on the X-Wing national championship.

Just for fun I looked in the 2015 Gen Con program guide.

Friday at 10:00 AM Xwing North American Championship Finals - Xwing Miniatures Game, 1st ed.

NMN1570300

I remembered it being listed as 1st edition forever, just looked in the book to make sure my memory was correct. It's on Page 219 if anyone wants to look if they don't trust me ;)

Ffg is most definitely running the GenCon event. Which is NOT nationals. It is the North American Championship. USA nationals this year I believe is at the nova open.

There's not going to be a 2nd edition until this cash cow is well and truly milked. I wish people would stop mooing about it.

SMOKESCREEN!!!!! BIGGS NERF! X-WING FIX!!! 2.0!!!!! LET THE SKYFALL!!!! FFG = ILLUMINATI!!!!!!!

Hummmm

Honestly I would quite like FFG to re-visit some of the aging ships with just new models.

Why not bulk out the original tie fighter with a more robust frame like the tie fo. For me the original tie fighter has the cockpit too small.

OK sure, but there are tons of others that aren't, and they all say 1st Edition too.

Makes you think!

I wouldn't mind if FFG made a "second edition" of the original core set, with updated manual, the new damage deck and range rules. Same cards, but maybe even an errataed Biggs. Heck, I would buy one of that.

And no, I don't want the TFA core set. T-70s, TIE/fo, Poe Dameron and those awful unique pilots with generic names have no place in my Galactic Civil War collection.

Yeah, I've seen some of the prices people are asking/paying. Silly...

Or for more tinfoil hat speculation; X-Wing 2.0! Inbound!
