Mad Max's Jumpmaster

By caelenvasius, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

Hi! I've done a number of repaints (including sealing my own Black One literally the night before Heroes of the Resistance was announced), but this is the first time I've done fabrication on this scale. I'm no stranger to the process, but I've so far only done this on 28–30mm minis.

Anyways, I've been commissioned by a local to make one of his Jumpmasters—to use his terminology—"Mad Maxed-Up." I figured I liked the project enough that I'd share it with you all!

The spikes on the rim are future mounting points for a "bumper." The gun turret is being magnetized and moved to a flat platform right behind the cockpit. Another piece of tubing will run from where the turret once was to where they all group up. I've also got some thin slats being prepped for a mod to the cockpit windows. Painting will, of course, follow all of the fab.

What do you all think? I've no shortage of ideas on where to go from here, but you lot are a creative bunch, and I'd love to hear your ideas if you've got them.

Cheers!

EDIT: There, that should fix the photos. Apparently the forums and Dropbox don't like to talk to each other...

Well, you could always weld the cockpit tube from a second Jumpy on top of the first one.... (Gigahorse)

Cool idea and good concept so far!

Great start! I know it won't make sense on a "space" ship but some kind of roll-cage and/or antenna to hang a flag on seem to suit the Mad Max films sense of style.

I don't know if this is going too far, but if you could find an appropriately scaled figure to man a gun that's mounted on the wing somewhere--that'd be pretty mad.

The commissioner and I had the same idea right away; I tried so hard to find an appropriately sized figure, and I would rig up a flamethrower guitar. Makes even less sense in space than the rollcage, but it would be epic. I couldn't find one though, and I'm not a good enough sculptor to do the space guy.

I've got an idea list in my head of options, and I'll be waiting until the current set of mods is done before I decide to use them. This list includes a spoiler, a roll cage, and a turbo intake where I said the turret would be (I'd find a different spot to put the weapon). I'm waiting on these because there is such a thing as "too much," even for Mad Max/Space Orks.

If you can find them, Bandai makes little army men to scale with their Gundam models, 1/144 scale. I've never compared them to an X-Wing mini to know how good a match they would be but it might be worth a look.

I'd imagine you'd need Bandai Z scale (a. k. a. ZZ scale)... It's in the range of 1/285 to 1/300.

I'd bet onslaught miniatures would have something appropriate, figure wise.
