I like the card, not a fan of the name. I guess the same problem with Shameful Display. It just seems weird to be making attacks on things which are events. Also shouldn't the attacker be the one raiding? I think I would of liked something along the lines of Narrow Pass or Storm Ravaged Plains. Maybe even Bandit Hideout. Something that showed why your supplies are cut short

A time is also a place.

I think this is another card that demonstrates how potentially important it could be to scout your opponent's provinces with smaller armies before sending a big force.

I suspect that's the idea, and it becomes a trade-off. Do you scout, and suffer the delays of scouting in what's looking like a fairly fast game, or go for it and eat the cost, but break the province earlier? Yet another decision point for the players, and a good one.

Knowing your opponent becomes a key advantage, if you have an idea of how many of these defensive provinces he runs. It makes me wonder about the advantage of 'scouting' opponents at a big tournament... Still, for one-off battles against friends, this seems like a great point for deciding your strategy. I'm really liking the number of choices, and how much emphasis it puts on game-time decisions.

FFG has my full and complete permission to slam all of the Phoenix stuff together into one week.

Agreed.

Also, they should tell everyone that all of our cards suck

Historically, we, the Phoenix playerbase, are pretty good at handling that bit on our own.

*still feels vindicated about the vigorous thumbs-down he gave CoM Isawa Tsuke*

I've always viewed multiplayer as a fun non-competitive way of playing when you have a bunch of friends and just don't feel like playing the 1v1 at the moment. That said, I do find it odd that they've intentionally not answered questions about it. Presumably, they will unveil it at some point. One wonders when they will do that, especially since they're already behind in terms of the two article types that they are currently running out to the community.

I love the story of the game. It's what kept me playing L5R even when my clan was unable to muster a competitive deck that I enjoyed playing. But when I did eventually leave the game, I left the fiction behind as well. It just becomes more difficult to stay invested in the story when you're not involved in it. At least it was for me. That's why I am more interested in cards right now.

Once I become invested in the game and get my cards and begin playing, the fiction will become exponentially more important. But, for now, I just want to confirm that I want to play this game right now haha. Because, to be honest, I enjoyed the Crane clan preview, but I doubt I'd ever want to play that clan.

I'm very interested in Lion, Crab and Phoenix, which is why I was so disappointed that they moved the fiction to this week. This week I should be learning about the Lion's card pool but, instead, I have to wait an additional week for that :(.

I hate multiplayer with a passion, for some reason my friends always killed me first as in almost immediately. I then got to sit around for 2-4 hours while they finished playing. worst experience ever, I'm also not really a fan of anything with a heavy kingmaker mechanic. JMHO

One giant circular table, and you can only interact with the people to your immediate right and left.

Giant electrified metal dome cage is optional.

Ask Sparks how he feels about CoM Isawa Tsuke. :P

Do you mean 'scouting' as in watching an opponent's game with someone else before you actually play against them?

Yes. Or, as it's more commonly used, being part of a team that shares notes on games they've watched / played in.

Or just sending a cheap Lion to a political battle on their own to check the province before the horde arrives.

About the "Shaft Clan" (I loved that! :P), I bet the Scorpion will be the last one and their fiction will probably reveal they are behind the grander scheme of things within the setting recently, pulling everyone's strings at one level or another.

I kinda hope the Scorpion ARE last - it gives the other people less time to prepare to play against them - and also likely means they will have some culmination to the plot that all of the previous fictions lead to. Very excited to be last sometimes ^_^ Even if it means being patient now (learn to swim...)

Think about it like this though - these are both "when revealed" effects, so it is fitting they are more "events" then places. I'm sure we'll see both types, events and places depending on the type of effect it will have.

So, the feeling that I am getting more and more is that the Province cards represent the Strategy that is being used to defend that part of your holdings. Over here the Phoenix hide their resources in a magical forest that interferes with your plans, over there we have night raiders prepared to attack your baggage, and in that province is the knowledge that your general was seduced.
