Kylo Ren / Kath Scarlet Stress Control?

Hey guys.

I'm new here to the forums. Haven't played Xwing long but I really want to get into it now. I wanted to build a lists that would be easy to manage but still pack a punch.

I wanted to make a stress control build with Kylo Ren and Kath Scarlet, since they both like dealing out crits and stress. This is the list:

Kath Scarlet(47) [Kath Scarlet(38), Gunner(5), "Mangler" Cannon(4), Adaptability(0)]

Kylo Ren(52) [Kylo Ren(34), Engine Upgrade(4), Recon Specialist(3), Rebel Captive(3), Fire Control System(2), Weapons Guidance(2), Adaptability(0), Sensor Cluster(2), Kylo Ren's Shuttle(2)]

Any feedback would be great.

It's a neat idea but I think the shuttle is a little heavy for what it can realistically pull off. It being a large ship with that many upgrades relying on actions, it would certainly be a target for me to block easily. Thereby nullifying a lot of the points you have sunk into it and probably not getting to shoot much. Also I don't think you'll need the title on it as it can only stress ships that are not already stressed.

Kath can work but you typically don't see her on the table much as an Imperial, as her Scum ability is much stronger. However, gunner is the way to go to trigger her ability and still actually damage something. I'd definitely thin Kylo a little to get Predator on her somehow. She can use it on her Mangler shot to actually reroll hits to blanks or focuses to try to only have one crit left. Then when they evade the Mangler and take a stress, she can use it to help push damage through on her primary shot.

Just some tweaks to think about. Right now you have 4 upgrades on Kylo that rely on you not getting blocked or hitting a rock on the way. So if your opponent is aware of this he will certainly be blocking the hell out of him. I used to tool up Kanan in the ghost with a bunch of upgrades like that and he was always getting blocked too. Some things you just gotta get to the mat and you will see what works and what doesn't.

Thanks for the advice. I tried the list today. Went up against a Rey / Nora list. Did manage to kill Nora pretty easily, but I never really triggered Kylo or Kath's abilities.

I built the list to try and counter mindlink lists, though it does not do too well against anything else.

I think I might put this list on the shelf for now and revisit it at a later stage.

Currently getting ready for a tournament and don't have any ideas what to run.

If you're looking for a fun Kylo lost and have a Decimator, I've been thinking about this. Oicunn still gets rerolls (and does damage) if blocked, and Vader only when needed. Wampa is a distraction to most ships and an actual terror to some. Kylo flown well can be a hell of a hammer.

Oicunn could be dropped to a patrol leader, so you could add expert handling and inspiring recruit on Kylo. This makes him much more likely to stay in the fight, though I don't k ow what you'd spend the last 2 points on. It leaves the patrol leader a bit naked.

I ran a similar Kath/Kylo list for fun. It was amusing at best. You could optimize the upgrades and get better results, but it still wouldn't be good enough for competitive play.

Put Rebel Captive on Kath so the opponent's highest PS ship has to choose between stress or Kylo's condition. Drop the Weapons Guidance and Sensor Cluster. Pattern Analyzer is a solid choice for that slot, so you can stop and take an action in the same round. I can't remember the rest of my list, but those were the main differences.

Ive been running a whisper, kath and tie academy lately thats done pretty well. Has won other than a few games. Ive gone 1-1 against a good scum player and flew against a fenn list but i flew whisper to aggressively. Traded whisper for fenn second round of combat and kath couldn't pull it off. Otherwise its done well. You have to sacrifice a little on kath but its usually dishes out more stress to make up for the build

Whisper - VI, acd, fcs, rebel captive

Kath - slave 1, long range scanners, a score to settle, tactician, mangler cannon

Academy tie

Still have 98 pt initiative bid for whisper. Usually leaves whisper for end game but in the game i lost kath held her own still after whisper died. The academy doesnt care what it does. Get in there and block and take a shot or 2 while kath stresses them. A score to settle plus mangler really helps against that ship that you want to stress. Even if you shoot a different ship mangler helps you pull the crit. Looking forward to getting games against other players and see how it does
