By most opinions and calculations the punisher is overcosted by 3-4 points. giving free extra munitions only is a buff by 2. the sadder part is also that LWFrame would be wonderful but other than deathrain, everyone needs GC.

If you simpy said: Punisher title: unlimited ammo. And you may equip up to 2 modifications. Modifications cost 0 points. This would make a fine ship.

Free LWframe, free extra munitions. Letting you take GC too.

Infinite ammo. Thats what I am saying. if you could just throw a single Plasma Torp + Guidance Chips onto Redline, never needed to discard it - you would have a heavy hitter without creating a point grave.

While I agree that it would fix the chassis point-wise, it would be a very uninspiring update and not really encourage me to play the ship more.

The major problem with the Punisher is that it costs much more than a standard Bomber and lives just about as long. It trades an agility for a few hit points, which makes it actually just as easy to kill. And bombers themselves are kinda easy to kill as it is. Really, all either one needs is the ability to take two modifications so as to get both Lightened Frame and Guidance Chips. A negative squadpoint cost would also help. Perhaps a title that reads the following:

Retrofitted Ordnance Tubes

Imperial only. Modification.

You may only equip this card if you have two [missile] slots and a [torpedo] slot. You may fill any of your upgrade slots with modifications.

Cost 0

Note that there's no ship restriction. That means that if they give it the right slots, this would also work on a Gunboat! :D

Sure, but now since a lot of universal use 0 point upgrades are out there and new titles like Varski, upgrade slots are starting to get a value on it's own. An EPT slot now means you have a choice of gaining some flexibility for pilot skill, or being able to roll more dice when shooting through obstacles.

For me this would just be perfect. I wouldn't need super fancy fixes. Its a Bomber after all.

You may drop bombs when you reveal your maneuver dial and/or at start of the perform action step.

When revealing your maneuver dial you may perform one free action that must be used for dropping mines. (This counts as a perform action step)
