Dodonna Super Crit 10,000 - List Building Advice

By puntspeedchunk, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

As I mentioned in a previous topic thread, I have been trying my hand at building (somewhat?) competitive lists for some summer tournament/organized play. I've never played competitively before, only casual matches.

I wanted to try my hand at the Rebels (I really would like to run a Rebel List, if I can't settle on a 'Mottled' list). So, here it is - any advice would be awesome and much appreciated:

Dodonna Super Crit 10,000
Author: Puntspeedchunk

Faction: Rebel Alliance
Points: 399/400

Commander: General Dodonna

Assault Objective: Close-Range Intel Scan
Defense Objective: Fighter Ambush
Navigation Objective: Solar Corona

Assault Frigate Mark II B (72 points)
- Gallant Haven ( 8 points)
- Toryn Farr ( 7 points)
= 87 total ship cost

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36 points)
- Garel's Honor ( 4 points)
- Boarding Troopers ( 3 points)
= 43 total ship cost

GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- Bright Hope ( 2 points)
- Bomber Command Center ( 8 points)
= 28 total ship cost

GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- Bomber Command Center ( 8 points)
= 26 total ship cost

[ flagship ] Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57 points)
- General Dodonna ( 20 points)
- Yavaris ( 5 points)
- Adar Tallon ( 10 points)
- Fighter Coordination Team ( 3 points)
= 95 total ship cost

1 Wedge Antilles ( 19 points)
1 Biggs Darklighter ( 19 points)
1 Norra Wexley ( 17 points)
2 X-Wing Squadrons ( 26 points)
1 Luke Skywalker ( 20 points)
1 Jan Ors ( 19 points)

I am not sold on the objectives, I honestly am still getting used to the ones from the CC campaign. I think that this is pretty straight forward. AF, Neb, and Transports direct fighter traffic and try to pull off some X-wing Crit love. The Hammerhead would act as a flanker and/or blocker - hoping to trigger Dodonna's ability when the title is triggered. For Ackbars (and Demos?), this could work head on, for ISDs maybe just a hit on the side or back would give it something to think about (so it misses wiping out my other capital ships), and - if all else fails - it works as a seek-and-destroy flotilla boat.

I have considered dropping Adar and FCT from the Yavaris in order to either squeeze another X-wing into the list OR to beef up the AF for a little more staying power.

Yavaris is a big target so move Doddona onto a flotilla or the AFII. Swap a Bcc for coms net could get you flight controllers on the AF and keep Yavaris activating 3 squadrons a turn.

Just a note: Usually you'd place Adar Tallon on a GR-75 or another squadron activator to either strike and/or put your squadron in a better position for the Yavaris double tap.

Moreover, consider whether Norra is worth including when you have squadrons of which 1 (Jan Ors) cannot use her ability, and 3 (Biggs and the two X-Wings) are not reliably going to roll a crit. I suppose Luke would rather give a ship a face up rather than trading the crit icon for a shield damage, so that leaves only Wedge to benefit from Norra's ability.

Edit: additional comment.

That's true. I was considering dropping an X and maybe 1 upgrade to squeeze a couple Ys into the list.

Would a viable substitution be to swap Yavaris/Neb with an MC30 as a second flanker to the Hammerhead - a much more mobile target (although the AF would probably become target #1)? Would still work with the Crit theme ... I would just need to use the Transports and the AF as the main Fighter escort.

One last question with Norra: if Bombers already count crits as damage AND can resolve a critical effect, is it highly situational to use Norra then? Since if I roll a crit with the X-wings, a damage is going through (to plink off a shield). Nevermind, it would essentially let the crit hit for 1 hit AND then plink off another shield when the effect is resolved. Answered my own question.

Here is a 2-flanker list using a similar squad build:

Dodonna Super Crit 10,000 II
Author: Puntspeedchunk

Faction: Rebel Alliance
Points: 400/400

Commander: General Dodonna

Assault Objective: Close-Range Intel Scan
Defense Objective: Fighter Ambush
Navigation Objective: Solar Corona

Assault Frigate Mark II B (72 points)
- Gallant Haven ( 8 points)
- Toryn Farr ( 7 points)
- Flight Controllers ( 6 points)
= 93 total ship cost

GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- Bright Hope ( 2 points)
- Bomber Command Center ( 8 points)
= 28 total ship cost

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36 points)
- Garel's Honor ( 4 points)
- Boarding Troopers ( 3 points)
= 43 total ship cost

[ flagship ] GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- General Dodonna ( 20 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 40 total ship cost

MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 72 total ship cost

1 Luke Skywalker ( 20 points)
1 Biggs Darklighter ( 19 points)
1 Jan Ors ( 19 points)
1 Wedge Antilles ( 19 points)
3 Y-Wing Squadrons ( 30 points)
1 Norra Wexley ( 17 points)

On that second list (the MC30 and the Yavaris could be interchanged ... or I could flood flotilla spam), I debated keeping Luke in for that chance at a crit right off the bat - or I could swap him out for 2 Ys, which could melt shields faster and then deliver crits hopefully with BCC. The downside with losing Luke, too, is that it seems like I would be hurting for anti-squad firepower (I really like the Imperials for that combo).
