Epic League House Rules

By joeshmoe554, in X-Wing

I'm planning to start a Team Epic League this summer, and I was wondering if anyone has suggestions of house rules to improve Epic Play.

I was planning on implementing a requirement of 3 Epic points per team so there is no major disadvantage to using Huge Ships, and I was considering a limit on mindlink since I could see that get out of hand at 400 points.

Any thoughts or other ideas from people who have played Epic games either recently or in the past?

Twin Cities X-Wing is hosting an epic league right now.

House rules being observed at the league:

- maximum of 4 copies of any non-unique upgrade card per side (only 4 mindlinks in your example)

- must include at least two epic points. This way someone who only owns a small epic can play because min of 3 means either running two small epics or a CR90/raider. I'm only flying a gr75 because it's the only epic I currently own.

- uniques are "killable" - when they are shot down, that player may not use that unique again during the season (June-August). They may spend the points lost however they wish

at 400 points something to speed up play that we did when trying the Battle of Endor scenario was all crits = direct hit on smal and large base ships.

Just a lot less book keeping, made things go fast, and more ships blowing up means faster game!

I agree on requiring a minimum of epic points. I think that makes sense but the rebel with a 30 point transport is at an advantage.

I like that house rule, it keeps the paid advantage on a more level area. Someone with 6 Alpha Squadron will have an advantage over those with 4 saber and 2 alpha squadron.

As for me I came up with some house rules but those are more just to include some theme (auto-ramming not included, special rules for wrecked huge ships)

I think those are only good for a single game, for a league you want to keep the house rules at a minimum.

3 Epic points per team means each player could field a cruiser/transport or one player could bring a corvette so there is no requirement for one person to bring 2 Huge ships. I expect a few people will have to borrow Huge ships to meet the requirement and I believe a few people in the league will be happy to lend out ships or coordinate with players to provide one for those matches. It should make it easier to justify the cost of a corvette though if you know that your opponent has to either bring a corvette or 2 cruisers/transports and one of the reasons to do this is to dust off the cobwebs on those huge ships nobody uses.

I like the idea of putting a maximum limit on non-unique upgrade cards as that should do a decent good job of limiting any potential broken combos that just get worse in epic play.

I definitely want to keep the house rules to a minimum and they will mostly affect list building since most of the players will probably have to learn the Huge ship rules already to play. The main reason for them is to try and prevent any ships or upgrades that were designed for 100 point play from becoming too overpowered in 400 point games.
