OK, so I had a pretty rough weekend at the European Championships. After much umming and ahhing last week, I narrowed by list Dow to two choices: A mindlinked Scum list with Fenn, Sweet T and a Mandalorian Merc, or a triple Defender list with two TIE/D ion Deltas and VI Vessery.

In the queue to register I made the biggest decision of the weekend and went with the Defenders (subbing VI Maarek in for Vessery as I completely forgot the Colonel is on the other side of the Delta Squadron tile).

My justification for this crazy last-minute decision? 6-health ships were less likely to be one-shot than the noble Protectorate and, more importantly, the ion cannons would give me two extra shots and (hopefully) an advantage against low agility ships. Miranda, Norra, TLT Y-Wings - the Ion Cannons were my equalizer, I thought!

My only two wins of the weekend? Against x7 Defenders. You know nothing, FTS Gecko.

I feel your dilemma, I often vacillate to the last minute. I tend to have a internal fight between going with what feels good, what I know wins well, and one that would be shocking.

....unless I pick the middle, I often fair below .500 .....but when I go with what feels good or some weirdo jank, it's usually a blast, even without swag. ???

To be fair, x7 Defenders HATE ions.

ICT Palob with Cloaking Device + SPA (and Zuckuss for good measure) was my ship of choice for beating on x7s when they were everywhere.

Every time I make a last-minute decision on a list, I do terrible. I feel your pain.

Only got in two and a half games before having to leave Fri night with a TB /D Vess, QD and OL list but yep, the one game I think I would have won (the half) was...x7s. When did those stop being awesome?

Tractor Beams are where x7s really suffer against TIE/D. TBing a Defender onto a rock or in a position where they have to over an obstacle next turn went from "bad but managable" to absolutely devastating with the FAQ. I play an x7 in my list and one of my biggest counters is VI Tractor Beam Vessery. Can't seem to beat him.

I did similar last-minute change once for national tournament and it went bad, the change made my squad much more fragile.

So just few weeks earlier I attended in tournament and kept my squad that I planned to fly in the first place and I became second. So I learned same lesson hard way like you did, but there is always good reason that we(players) spend time with squad builders and practicing "THE" squad for upcoming event.

I have always been good at learning from my mistakes and it doesn't bother me to learn that way either.

I wish I could of attend to the Euro championships, just couldn't make it there. By the way, who and what won it? Or is it still going?
