Thinking of buying

By Luvia, in Doom

So what kind of board game is doom? Does anybody know of a game review I could read? I have read some post I get the feeling its like a scfi version of heroquest(Not a bad thing imho).Any help you can give will be great.

Scifi version of Heroquest, if the Heroes had 1 Life each and monsters had hits on 5 of the 6 sides on each die and rolled 6 dice to attack, vs Heroes rolling 2 for defense demonio.gif .

Yep, as Dam said.

Plus, it is the root-game of Descent (meaning, the one that gave life to). So, you could watch vid reviews on Descent (much easier to find I assume) and imagine, as Dam said, a simpler, faster, more violent and sci-fi version of it. Board to Death made a vid on Descent I think (and on Doom too ? hmm, I forgot, maybe not). But Scott didn't, I think.

If you're hesitating, better not for too long. Like, if you think you'll buy it at some stage but in the future, I recommend not to wait for too long because that game will disappear (hello? that's my personal opinion, no debate needed about it!!!). With Descent or Gears of War, Doom is over for FFG, it seems. And, well, I heard from good source that no reprinting will be done (you can see that it is true with the incredible cheap sales there were for christmas.... and that you missed, my poor fellow !)

So... er... buy it ? please ? ;)

Per the normal rules the marines respawn indefinitely until a preset number of frags is accumulated. I definitely play "ironman" style where each marine gets one life only - it makes the game ten times better imho - but that's not actually how the rules work.

To answer the OP directly:

It's a great game. It does an amazing job of simulating the suspense and horror of the video game upon which it is based, and the figures are great sculpts (that look even better painted =O.) Unlike HeroQuest, however, there is a half-decent chance the marines will lose (which Dam hinted at =P), but that doesn't really detract from the game. It adds to the desperate survival horror atmosphere.

Cool! thanks for all the help!

Well it finally came in. I got to say I love this game.Challenging and Fun. I tore open the box and was blown away by the high qrality of the pieces. The game took almost no time to learn. The mecanis were so simple and straight forward but had alot of room for strategy.

Thanks for all the help and happy gaming!

One more fanatic. Kewl :)

Once you've played through the 5 scenarios, don't forget the expansion for even more scenarios. Also check BoardGameGeek for even more fanmade scenarios and maps.

Heh. I haven't had anyone survive the second scenario yet so it may be a while before I break out the expansion.

Did anyone ever win the second scenario as the marines? Never happened for us. It's hard as Hell!

My players cant get past the first gran_risa.gif

Remember, only one marine needs to make it out for the marine players to win (IIRC.)

I've never found a group willing to try after the first scenario, so playing a PlayByForum game over on BGG. We're just starting our second scenario and I have high hopes. One of the marines has 4 armor and there's an armor in the starting room, so I'm thinking about letting him pick it up, so he'll have 5 armor, go around chainsawing everything.

Only if playing 1-Marine games. Otherwise, everyone must make it out alive.

My bad. That must've been another change we made for our ironman sessions. Since each marine only gets one life I guess we just said only one guy needs to get out.

Even though they cant beat the first scenerio they love it just the same. gui%C3%B1o.gif

I make sure to emphasize that the game plays like a video game. It may take multiple attempts at a level to get through. Before I did that, I had MANY one-time players. :)

Don't remind me. By the time I remembered about the Christmas sale, all copies of the expansion were sold out. I'm still kicking myself.
